Objectives and Contextualisation

The objective of this subject is for students to acquire basic research skills. Students join a research team and their role is to collaborate with researchers, taking responsibility for specific tasks in the team's work. Under the tutelage of a researcher, they will acquire the fundamentals of scientific work in a practical and critical way.

Learning Outcomes

  1. CA27 (Competence) Design intervention strategies based on evidence from practice that adjust to concurrent individual and social variables.
  2. CA28 (Competence) Conduct research on communication and language disorders.
  3. CA29 (Competence) Communicate research results and the knowledge derived from them to specialist and non-specialist audiences in a clear and unambiguous manner.
  4. CA30 (Competence) Work autonomously, solving problems and making decisions in the field of scientific research.
  5. KA18 (Knowledge) Acquire more in-depth knowledge of the neurocognitive processes involved in the acquisition of oral language and its disorders and in the learning of reading and writing and its disorders.
  6. SA29 (Skill) Critically interpret the language of the sources of information on communication and language disorders used by different professionals.
  7. SA30 (Skill) Write scientific reports according to established standards.
  8. SA31 (Skill) Use documentary sources to obtain information for the purpose of research on communication and language disorders.

Content

The list of the research lines and available places will be published on the Moodle platform (Virtual Campus) at the beginning of the course.

In the Research Practices, experiential and context-based learning and inquiry-based learning are used. The training activities include practical activities within the research group related to its objectives, the search and critical reading of articles, participation in internal seminars to discuss results, preparation of final report, etc.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

Continous Assessment Activities

Title Weighting Hours ECTS Learning Outcomes
EV1: Evaluation of the tutor on the research activities 50 0 0 CA27, CA28, CA30, SA29, SA31
EV2: Meeting in research group or individual mentoring 10 0 0 CA29, KA18, SA29, SA31
EV3: Written report 40 0 0 CA27, CA28, CA29, KA18, SA29, SA30

The evaluation of this subject is carried out in accordance with the Evaluation Guidelines of the Facultat de Psicologia i de Logopèdia that can be consulted at:

https://www.uab.cat/web/estudiar/normativa-academica-del-centre-1345721957004.html

The research groups appoint tutors responsible for the students who carry out the monitoring, supervision and evaluation of students based on rubrics (EV1 and EV2, contributes 60% to the final grade of the subject). The Faculty proposes an academic tutor responsible for the management and coordination of the internships who is also responsible for evaluating with a rubric the written report that the students have to make (the remaining 40% of the grade)

The requirements for carrying out this evidence will be explained in detail in the informative tutorials and on the Virtual Campus.

In order to make the weighted sum and obtain the final grade, it is necessary to have obtained a grade of 5.0 or higher in each of the learning evidences (group assessment and written report).

Students who have not exceeded the minimum number of hours of attendance with the research group (80 hours) will receive a grade of Not Assessed.

Subject passed: Students pass the subject when they have covered the minimum number of hours spent with the group and obtain a minimum grade of 5.0 in the weighted calculation of the evaluation of the research group and the written report.

Reassessment: students who have not passed the subject, but have a final grade of continuous assessment greater than or equal to 3.5, may recover only the part corresponding to the written report of practices (EV3), in the event that the grade of this evidence is insufficient. In the weighted calculation of the final grade, a score of 5.0 points will be incorporated as a retake grade.

This subject does not provide for single assessment.

The material used during the internship is the responsibility of the research group, and its possible recording requires its authorization. Any action or conduct that puts the ethical principles or the code of ethics in tension may result in the internship subject not being passed.

For this subject, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies is allowed exclusively in support tasks, such as bibliographic or information search, text correction or translations.... The student will have to clearly identify which parts have been generated with this technology, specify the tools used and include a critical reflection on how they have influenced the process and the final result of the activity. Lack of transparency in the use of AI in this assessable activity will be considered a lack of academic honesty and may result in a partial or total penalty in the grade of the activity, or greater penalties in cases of seriousness.

Each supervisor will give the students the specific reading references at the beginning of the course.
