Prerequisites

Students must have enrolled on the master’s degree programme.


Objectives and Contextualisation

The overall objective of this course is for students to consolidate their use of different sources of documentation and technological resources, and to acquire new sources and resources related to language and translation from a critical and reflective perspective.


Learning Outcomes

  1. CA04 (Competence) Apply the knowledge acquired in the possible resolution of a problem related to translation or interculturality and its study in a little-known environment
  2. CA05 (Competence) Design a feasible research project, autonomously, within the field of translation and interculturality, in which the criteria of rigour and academic excellence are satisfied.
  3. KA04 (Knowledge) Identify the methodological bases and principles of translation in theoretical, descriptive or applied research.
  4. KA05 (Knowledge) Identify the different sources of documentation and technological resources related to language and translation from a critical and reflective approach.
  5. SA05 (Skill) Differentiate types of information sources and technological resources relevant to the study of translation and interculturality.
  6. SA06 (Skill) Critically analyse the use of documentary and technological resources in the resolution of problems related to translation and interculturality.
  7. SA07 (Skill) Use documentary and technological resources to solve problems arising from interculturality and linguistic plurality by applying a critical approach.

Content

Use of different sources of documentation (e.g. dictionaries of all kinds, including visual and relational dictionaries; glossaries and thesauri; databases; text repositories; corpora) and technological resources (e.g. corpus analysis programs; computer-assisted translation programs; machine translation systems; AI-based text generators), and acquisition of new sources and resources related to language and translation from a critical and reflective approach. It also addresses the concepts (e.g. types of research, the scientific method) and tools (e.g. questionnaires, interviews) that form the methodological basis of theoretical, descriptive or applied research, culminating in a Master's dissertation.

4. Methodology for preparing the Master's Dissertation

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

IMPORTANT

Reminder: "copying" is considered to be work that reproduces all or a large part of the work from one to another colleague, and "plagiarism" is the act of presenting part or all of an author’s text as one’s own, that is, without citing the sources, whether it is published on paper or in digital form on the Internet. Copying and plagiarism are intellectual theft and therefore contravene university regulations that will be sanctioned with a "zero" mark. In the case of copying between two students, if it is not possible to know who copied who, the sanction will be applied to both students. If there are several irregularities in the evaluation activities of the same subject, the final grade of this subject will be zero.

SINGLE ASSESSMENT

This subject cannot be assessed under the single assessment system.
