Prerequisites
Students must have enrolled on the master’s degree programme.
Objectives and Contextualisation
The objective of this module is for students to acquire knowledge of the distinctive nature of research in the different areas of theoretical, descriptive and applied study within translation studies and intercultural studies.
Competences
- Analyse distinct discourse types in intercultural environments.
- Appropriately identify and interpret cultural elements.
- Communicate and justify conclusions clearly and unambiguously to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Continue the learning process, to a large extent autonomously.
- Integrate knowledge and use it to make judgements in complex situations, with incomplete information, while keeping in mind social and ethical responsibilities.
- Integrate knowledge to be able to make judgements about topics related to translation and intercultural studies.
- Solve problems in new or little-known situations within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to the field of study.
- Use acquired knowledge as a basis for originality in the application of ideas, often in a research context.
- Use the necessary documentary and technological resources for translation and intercultural studies.

Content
The module is organised around seminars on research carried out in the different areas of translation studies and intercultural studies, and the specific methods and resources used in each case. Its content encompasses the translation of literary texts; the translation of audiovisual texts and accessibility; interpreting; ICTs applied to translation; translator and interpreter training; the history of translation and interpreting; interculturalism, ideology and the sociology of translation; gender and translation; cognition in translation; and professional and occupational aspects of translation.
