It is advisable to have basic knowledge of general pathophysiology, the digestive system and blood diseases. It is also essential to have knowledge of human anatomy, genetics, molecular biology and pharmacology. Sufficient knowledge of the psychological bases of health and disease states is desirable, as well as an adequate level of knowledge in interpersonal communication and professional behavior. The student will acquire the commitment to preserve the confidentiality and professional secrecy of the data that he may have access to because of the learning in the assistance services. Also in maintaining an attitude of professional ethics in all their actions.
MiC III consists of two distinct parts: diseases of the digestive system and diseases of the blood Digestive system Its general objective is the study of the sick person with pathologies of the digestive system: Know and achieve general skills for assistance in the main surgical medical diseases of the digestive system in the aspects of physiopathological mechanisms, form of clinical presentation , differential diagnosis, complementary examinations and therapeutic options Hematology: Students will acquire the necessary knowledge about diseases of the blood and hematopoietic organs, and will learn to interpret the blood alterations of non-primarily hematological diseases. The program includes the diseases that affect the blood and hematopoietic organs, their nosological classification, their risk and prevention factors, the most characteristic clinical and laboratory manifestations, their treatment (including the transplantation of hematopoietic progenitors and therapy cellular) and subsequent follow-up, alterations in hemostasis, transfusions of blood and blood products, and the pathology and surgical treatment of the spleen
Contents by devices and systems The subject is structured in two distinct parts, diseases of the digestive system and diseases of the blood. It includes the theoretical content and clinical cases corresponding to each of them. The necessary clinical practices related to these two devices or systems and which complement MiC III, are included in another compulsory subject, Medical-Surgical Practices II. The contents of the subject are indicative. Each teaching unit will be able to adapt and specify in its programme, the subjects, the teaching staff, the teaching types and the timetable assigned to each one. Know and interpret the results of the basic analytical tests in hematology (hemogram, basic coagulation tests, erythrocyte indices) 2. Special tests in hematology Know the main types, basics and indications of the special tests used in Hematology (cyto/histology, immunophenotype, cytogenetics and molecular genetics) 3. Anemia. classification Iron deficiency anemia. Anemia of chronic diseases. Megaloblastic anemias and other macrocytic anemias Properly classify an anemia. Diagnose the cause and treat iron deficiency anemia. Diagnose anemia associated with chronic diseases. Know the various causes of macrocytic anemia. Diagnose and treat megaloblastic anemia due to vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiency 4. Congenital and acquired hemolytic anemias Identify a hemolytic syndrome. Make the etiological diagnosis. Know the diagnostic tests and the various treatments used in hemolytic anemias depending on the type. Diagnose and treat paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria. 5. Quantitative and qualitative alterations of the leukocyte system Know the main causes of leukopenia, especially neutropenia. Identify and treat agranulocytosis. Know the main causes of leukocytosis. Identify and make the differential diagnosis of a leukoerythroblastic syndrome
6. Bone marrow failure: bone marrow aplasia and myelodysplastic syndromes Know the causes of global and selective spinal cord insufficiency. Diagnose,know the severity and treat a bone marrow aplasia. Be clear about the concept and diagnosis of a myelodysplastic syndrome. Know the prognosis and the different treatments used depending on the risk of the disease. 7. Acute leukemias. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia Classify acute leukemias based on morphological, immunological, cytogenetic and molecular criteria. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Clinic, diagnosis and prognosis. Know the types of treatment and their results. 8. Acute myeloblastic leukemia. Special aspects of the treatment of patients with acute leukemia. Clinic, diagnosis and prognosis of acute myeloblastic leukemia and its several main subtypes. Know the types of treatment and their results. Chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms (NMPC) without Philadelphia chromosome Identify the three types of NMPC without the Philadelphia chromosome. Know the diagnostic criteria for each of them and differentiate them from each other and from secondary cases. Know the characteristic molecular alterations and classic and modern treatments. 10. 12. Malignant lymphomas. Classification and extension study. Hodgkin's lymphoma Know the basics of the modern classification of lymphomas. Know the anatomopathological, immunological, genetic and molecular characteristics of the most frequent types of lymphomas. Clinic, diagnosis and treatment of Hodgkin's lymphoma. 13. Aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphomas Clinic, diagnosis and treatment of the main types of B-line and T-line lymphomas. 14. Indolent lymphoid neoplasms. Chronic lymphatic leukemia Know and classify the various types of indolent lymphoid neoplasms, with special emphasis on chronic lymphatic leukemia. 15. Monoclonal gammopathy. multiple myeloma Clearly distinguish a monoclonal gammopathy of uncertain significance from a malignant monoclonal gammopathy. Know the clinic, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of multiple myeloma, 16. Other monoclonal gammopathy: Macroglobulinemia of Waldenström. Amyloidosis AL Know the clinic, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of Waldenström's macroglobulinemia and AL amyloidosis 17. Diseases of the phagocytic mononuclear system Classify the main diseases of the phagocytic mononuclear system. Hemophagocytic syndrome. Cumulative histiocytosis (thesaurismosis). Main types of proliferative histiocytosis. 18. Surgical pathology of the spleen Know hypersplenism and splenic hypofunction. Classification of splenomegaly. Know the tributary diseases of surgery on the spleen. Know the main types and indications of surgical interventions on the spleen: open and laparoscopic splenectomy, conservative surgery. Care of the splenectomized patient. 19. Hemostasis disorders. Angiopathic purpuras, thrombocytopenias and thrombocytopaties Know the semiology and main tests for the study of hemostasis. Classify the main types of hemostasis disorders. Know the main causes of vasculopathic, thrombocytopenic and thrombocytopathic purpura. Treat the most common causes (eg immune thrombocytopenic purpura).
20. Congenital and acquired coagulopathies Know the main causes of congenital coagulopathy, as well as the diagnostic tests. Haemophilia and von Willebrand disease, clinical features, severity criteria and treatment. Know the most frequent acquired coagulopathy, their diagnosis and the various treatments available 21. Hypercoagulability. Know the genesis of arterial and venous thrombosis, the genetic bases and acquired factors of thrombosis. 22. Anticoagulant and thrombolytic treatment Know the indications, contraindications, risks and complications of the various drugs used in both anticoagulant and thrombolytic treatment. Know the organization of an anticoagulant treatment consultation and a thrombosis study and treatment unit. 23. Hemotherapy Know the main blood products and the specific indications for the transfusion of each of them, as well as the complications of the transfusion. Know the various apheresis procedures (cytapheresis, plasma exchange). Learn how a blood bank works. 24. Immunotherapy strategies and therapies aimed at Hematology. Learn the basics and types of targeted therapies and immunotherapeutic strategies in hematology, with special emphasis on monoclonal antibodies and CAR T cell therapy 25. Transplantation of hematopoietic progenitors Know the indications, procedure, complications, types and results of the transplantation of hematopoietic progenitors. 26. Integrated vision of Hematology and Hemotherapy Know the integrated operation of a clinical hematology unit (hospitalization and outpatient/day hospital), a multidisciplinary hematology laboratory and a blood bank
Methodology of classes The teaching methodology will be of two types: a. Theoretical-practical class taught by the teacher, which will include a summary of the theoretical topic and the discussion of a representative clinical case. Three of the classes will be given in English. A key recent article on the topic of each class will be provided if students want to expand their knowledge. b. Classes prepared by students. They will be agreed at the beginning of the course, in number of three. They can also be prepared in English, by prioragreement. They can be done in groups. The preparation of classes will be considered a merit towards the final evaluation of the subject CLINICAL CASES (7 hours) Seminars (6h) 1. Resolution of clinical cases: anemias Group discussion, supervised and structured of guide signs, differential diagnosis, clinical diagnosis, proposed treatment of a clinical case previously prepared at an individual level in the programmed pathology tutorials of the red series. 2. Resolution of clinical cases: pancytopenia Group discussion, supervised and structured of guide signs, differential diagnosis, clinical diagnosis, proposed treatment of a clinical case previously prepared at an individual level in the programmed pancytopenia tutorials. 3. Resolution of clinical cases: adenopathy Supervised and structured group discussion of guide signs, differential diagnosis, clinical diagnosis, proposed treatment of a clinical case previously prepared at an individual level in the programmed tutorials corresponding to a lymph node disease 4. Resolution of clinical cases: bleeding disorders Group discussion, supervised and structured of guide signs, differential diagnosis, clinical diagnosis, proposed treatment of a clinical case previously prepared at an individual level in the scheduled tutorials of a bleeding disorder. 5. Resolution of clinical cases: thrombosis Group discussion, supervised and structured of guide signs, differential diagnosis, clinical diagnosis, proposed treatment of a clinical case previously prepared at an individual level in the programmed tutorials of a thrombotic disease 6. Resolution of clinical cases: Splenomegaly Group discussion, supervised and structured of guide signs, differential diagnosis, clinical diagnosis, proposed treatment of a clinical case previously prepared at individual level in the programmed tutorials corresponding to a disease that runs with splenomegaly. This guide describes the framework, contents, methodology and general rules of the subject, in accordance with the current study plan. The final organization of the subject in terms of the number and size of groups, distribution in the calendar and exam dates, specific evaluation criteria and examination review, will be specified in each of the Hospital Teaching Units ( UDH), which will explain this through their web pages and on the first day of class of each subject, through the professors responsible for the subject at the UDH. As a general rule of teaching methodology, classes and seminars must have a practical sense, escaping as much as possible from the master class and basing it on clinical assumptions, oriented towards the training of general practitioners, avoiding super-specialization content. It must be remembered that it is a question of training general doctors, not specialists in the subjects of the subject. Exceptionally and according to the criteria of the responsible teaching staff, the available resources and the current health situation in the different universitary hospitals, part of the content corresponding to the theoretical lessons, practicals and seminars may be taught face-to-face or virtually. Note: 15 minutes of a class will be set aside, within the calendar established by the center/degree, for students to fill in surveys to evaluate the performance of the teaching staff and to evaluate the subject/module.
Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Evaluation The two different parts of the subject (diseases of the digestive system and blood diseases) are assessed continuously and separately. Continued avaluation: It will include a minimum of three assesment activities of diferent types distributed throughout the course. A minimum of two partial exams will be scheduled, at least one for each of the parts and they will be eliminatory when the grade obtained in each part one is greater than 5. The theoretical content, the clinical cases -seminars and simulation-, and the test of images in the blood diseases section. The final grade for each part of the continuous assessment will result from the sum of the various typologies, with the corresponding percentage of each. • Diseases of the digestive system (57% of the final mark) o Theoretical part exam: 70% (40% of the final mark) o Clinical cases (seminars and simulation): 30% (11% of the final mat¡rk)
Clinicals cases (simulation): 10% (6% of final mark) • Blood diseases (43% of the final grade) o Theoretical part exam: 45-70% o Clinical cases (seminars and simulation): 20-45% o Examination of clinical and cytological-histological, radiological images: 10% (4.4% of the final grade) recovery test The student who has not passed by continuous assessment both parts of the subject with a minimum grade of at least 5/10 in each, may opt for a recovery test for the entire subject or the parts that have not approved by continuous assessment. The specific evaluation methodology, both for the continuous evaluation and for the synthesis test, will be indicated in the program of each teaching unit Final qualification The final grade of MIC III will be the weighted average of two parts of the subject (Digestive System Diseases 57%, Blood Diseases 43%) Students who do not complete the evaluation tests will be considered as "not evaluable" exhausting the registration rights of the subject
