Objectives and Contextualisation

INTRODUCTION
										
											Dependence on substances that create addiction is a social phenomenon that affects the whole of society, with serious consequences on the health of the people involved and, furthermore, with clear detrimental effects of a family and social nature.
										
											On the one hand, there is the consumption of non-institutionalized drugs, such as heroin, cocaine, cannabis derivatives, etc., which is facilitated by the illegal trade in these substances. On the other hand, the problem of dependency also occurs with socially accepted products, such as alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Addictions not related to substances are also contemplated, such as addiction to video games and gambling.
										
											This subject will study the physical and behavioral manifestations, as well as the personal and social consequences related to alcohol abuse or dependence, other CNS depressants, opioids, hallucinogens and cannabinoids.
										
											GENERAL OBJECTIVE
										
											Acquire the necessary knowledge to give nursing care in the different problems related to drug addiction.
										
											Specific objectives
										
											Know the main concepts related to the consumption of addictive substances.
										
											Know the pattern of consumption of the main addictive substances in our environment.
										
											Discuss the effects of different substances on a physical, mental and social level.
										
											Reflect on the social problem of drug addiction.
										
											Learn different techniques and approaches from prevention, treatment and social reintegration.

Learning Outcomes

  3. Apply the nursing process to offer and guarantee the wellbeing, quality and safety of the people receiving the care.

  5. Identify guides for clinical and care practice related to caring for the health demands of people during the whole life cycle and in changes which may occur.
  6. Identify nursing care actions that respect the principles of ethical responsibility, fundamental rights and responsibilities, diversity and democratic values.
  7. Identify the different stages of the nursing process and its specific application as a response to people with changing health. 
  8. Identify the factors that determine health and the problems related to surroundings to be able to offer care to people with different situations of health and illness as members of a community.
  9. Identify the guides for clinical practice specific to each stage of the life cycle.
  10. Identify the importance of cultural competence in nursing care.
  11. Indicate measures to measures to ensure respect for opinions, beliefs and values without passing value judgements.

  13. Resolve nursing problems and collaboration problems using clinical histories, applying nursing methodology and current standardised languages.

This subject will be taught through theoretical classes, but also through the discussion of clinical cases related to the subject being taught. It will also facilitate the reading of articles and material of interest related to the proposed topic.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

This course does not contemplate the single evaluation system.
										
											
										
											The evaluation will consist of 4 evaluative moments:
										
											
										
											1. Knowledge exam that will account for 50% of the grade for the subject
										
											
										
											2. Group work, will consist of the analysis of a clinical case related to the topic that will be worked on that day in the session. The weight will be 15% of the grade for the course.
										
											
										
											3. Group work on the narrative of a situation: it will be indicated to watch a movie/read a book, etc., which will be worked on in groups in class. The weight will be 15% of the grade for the course.
										
											
										
											4. Presentation of a topic: it will consist of presenting in an original way a topic related to the subject but that has not been dealt with during it.
										
											
										
											Attendance is mandatory, failure in 2 of the activities will mean failing the subject. Those students who do not attend 75% of the total sessions of the subject are considered non-assessable.
										
											
										
											Disrespect to classmates, classmates or teachers / professors will not be tolerated. Homophobic, sexist or racist attitudes will not be tolerated either. If these attitudes are detected in any of the students, they will be graded with a failing of the subject.
										
											
										
											Any indication of plagiarism or dishonesty will mean failing the course.
										
											
										
											Recovery: students who have not passed the subject by continuous evaluation and who:
										
											
										
											-have attended at least 75% of the sessions
										
											
										
											-That they have a positive evaluation in the group work and the work on the narrative of the situation

The subject will be considered Not Evaluable when the student has not presented sufficient evaluation evidence:

											An honors degree will only be assignedto those students who, being among the best grades in the group and being within the range of grades between 9 and 10, accredit the performance of other activities such as attendance at student conferences, nursing conferences, conferences, in which nursing students can attend.

Considering that one of the general skills that the student is expected to acquire is to develop strategies for independent learning, no bibliography is specified. The student must become competent in the search and management of information.
