Objectives and Contextualisation

The master's degree dissertation constitutes a compulsory module (15 ECTS) within the proposed master's degree studies. In general terms, students work individually, under the guidance of their assigned tutor, on a final project that may or may not be experimental in nature, depending on its stated aims, and which must deal with a topic that is directly related to transfusion medicine or cellular and tissue therapies

At the end of the module, students write a dissertation on the work carried out, which they then go on to present and defend orally, by video conference. 

The examining board assesses students' ability to devise, implement and present a final project, basing their judgement on the dissertations submitted and how these are presented and defended orally.


Competences

  • Design and conduct strategic or research projects in the area of transfusion medicine using the appropriate resources and methodologies.
  • Integrate scientific and technical knowledge in accordance with a commitment to ethics and the code of conduct.
  • Knowledge and understanding that provide a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and / or applying ideas, often in a research context.
  • Recognise and apply the basic techniques and tools needed to manage the different areas of knowledge that are involved in any possible project in a blood bank.
  • Students can communicate their conclusions and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously.
  • Take reasoned decisions based on critical, objective analysis.
  • That students are able to integrate knowledge and handle complexity and formulate judgments based on information that was incomplete or limited, include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments.
  • That the students can apply their knowledge and their ability to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Carry out bibliographic searches in line with the subject of the master's degree dissertation.
  2. Demonstrate, in a transfusion-medicine research context, a detailed and informed understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects and methodology of work in distinct fields of study.
  3. Generate innovative and competitive proposals in the field of transfusion medicine, taking into account relevant ethical and social aspects.
  4. Identify and apply the management techniques of the specific area in which the project is framed.
  5. Integrate scientific and technical knowledge in accordance with a commitment to ethics and the code of conduct
  6. Knowledge and understanding that provide a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and / or applying ideas, often in a research context.

The structure of the master's degree dissertation is:

  • Introduction.
  • Context.
  • General and specific objectives.
  • General objective of the project and specific objectives of the sub-sections.
  • Materials and methods.
  • Results.
  • Discussion.
  • Conclusions.
  • Bibliography.

Methodology

The master's degree dissertation constitutes a compulsory module (15 ECTS) within the master's degree studies proposed here. In general terms, students work individually, under the guidance of their assigned tutor, on a final project that may or may not be experimental in nature, depending on its stated aims, and which must deal with a topic that is directly related to transfusion medicine or cellular and tissue therapies. 

At the end of the module, students write a dissertation on the work carried out, which they then go on to present and defend orally, by video conference.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.
