There are no prerequisites. We recommend starting the Master’s Dissertation (MD) during the second semester in order to have enough time to develop it properly.
The MD allows the student to address a real problem from the field ofHealth Psychology, either by joining a research team, or by identifying, with the help of the tutor(s), a need, problem or lack of knowledge. The MD requires the student to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the Master’s Degree to solve real problems.
The TFM can be carried out through 3 formats according to the needs, interests and possibilities of each student and their tutor(s). The work modality must be freely chosen by the student and/or his/her tutor/s in order to be able to carry out a good TFM, always guaranteeing that the TFM is feasible in the time stipulated for its duration and that it can be presented for evaluation and defended at the end of the MUPGS (end of the third semester).
Modality A
The first modality of work is the systematic review. The systematic review makes it possible to synthesize and report on the current state of research on a subject, using systematic and explicit procedures for the identification, selection and critical appraisal of relevant research. In addition, systematic reviews make it possible to identify relationships, contradictions, absences and inconsistencies in the scientific literature, as well as to suggest new works to solve the problems raised. The bases to follow for the development of a work of this type can be consulted at the PRISMA Institution (www.prisma-statement.org).
Modality B
The TFM can also be an empirical study that addresses a relevant research question and that will take the form of a conventional scientific article. This format helps the student to become familiar with the research processes (design, field work, statistical analysis, writing) and can lead to a presentation at a conference or a publication if the final result is of sufficient quality . It is recommended to have a methodological tutor or co-tutor and edit the work according to the APA style (www.apastyle.org).
Modality C
Finally, it can be a product work, which would include all those works whose objective is to develop a new instrument or method of evaluation, a new modality or intervention system, the improvement of a process, new therapeutic materials, a program, a tutorial, or any other tangible consequence with direct utility for health psychology, whether in relation to patients or users, health workers or agents, or to other elements of the health system likely to benefit from psychological knowledge.
The TFM includes four characteristics that distinguish it from the other subjects:
1) You have an eminently autonomous character, that is, the student has to assume the best part of the 300 hours that they embrace their TFM (279 hours of autonomous work).
2) The teaching of the TFM is not directed and is based on the tutorial action. The student does not attend the class, but is assisted by his / her tutor / if they contact the rest of the students through the virtual classroom.
3) By the way, the student is expected to deploy, develop and integrate a large number of previously developed competencies (during the degree, the rest of the MUPGS modules and contact with the tutors). The TFM must be the proof that the student can integrate the one that has after and pose-ho when serving to address a complex reality, solve problems, and show that she can continue with her self-taught training.
4) It implies a large number of agents, since each TFM will be supervised by one or two tutors (from the campus and/or from the internship health centers) and will also be evaluated by an independent court.
Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.
