Prerequisites

This subject has no specific prerequisite. However, their teaching is intended for third-year students and it is therefore assumed that the knowledge taught in the first and second year subjects has been acquired. You must have skills in the use of Geographic Information Systems.

Objectives and Contextualisation

The main objective of this subject is for students to acquire the knowledge necessary to have a critical view of spatial planning and to be able to assess the environmental contents with which the territory is structured.

To achieve this main goal, the following objectives are proposed during the course:

  • Analyze territorial and urban planning from an environmental point of view
  • Analyze environmental protection at international, European and national level
  • Work on the concept of the landscape from a normative point of view
  • Develop tools to assess the environmental impact on regulatory processes

Competences

  • Apply the basic regional, environmental and urban legal regulations for regional and environmental planning.
  • Integrate the different social and environmental disciplines with a view to describing and interpreting the spatial dynamics linked to social, economic and environmental change.
  • Students must be capable of applying their knowledge to their work or vocation in a professional way and they should have building arguments and problem resolution skills within their area of study.
  • Students must develop the necessary learning skills to undertake further training with a high degree of autonomy.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Integrate economic, social and environmental information in regional planning instruments.
  2. List the basic regional, environmental and urban regulations corresponding to the government bodies responsible in Catalonia.
  3. Students must be capable of applying their knowledge to their work or vocation in a professional way and they should have building arguments and problem resolution skills within their area of study.
  4. Students must develop the necessary learning skills to undertake further training with a high degree of autonomy.

Assessment

The evaluation of the subject is based on:

  • Face-to-face examination of the theoretical contents
  • Elaboration of a course work
  • Public presentation of the work
  • Field trip
  • All the evaluable activities will be able to recover, except the presentations made in the classroom, that do not have possibility to be done out of initial order, the exit of field, that for obvious reasons only does the days that is programmed, and tutorials.

To pass the subject you must have a minimum grade of 3.5 in each of the three assessable activities, regardless of the weight they have in the final grade, and have inexcusably attended the field trip and tutorials.

The grade of Non-assessable will be obtained if no activity has been delivered or only the first activity has been delivered. Therefore, having delivered two or more activities implies that the course has been followed and the grade to be obtained will be the one passed (10-5) or the one suspended (4.9-0).

Finally, the student must keep in mind the face-to-face activities of compulsory attendance, without which he will not be able to have the final evaluation of the subject:

  • Tutorial assistance
  • Field trip
  • Elaboration of the course work
  • Public presentation of the work
  • Evaluation and if necessary also re-evaluation

On carrying out each evaluation activity, lecturers will inform students (on Moodle) of the procedures to be followed for reviewing all grades awarded, and the date on which such a review will take place.

Copying or plagiarizing material, both in the case of work and in the case of exams, is a crime that will be punished with a zero tothe activity. In case of recidivism, the whole subject will be suspended.Remember that a work that reproduces all or most of the work of another classmate is considered a "copy". “Plagiarism” is the act of presenting all or part of a text by an author as one’s own, without citing sources, whether on paper in digital format. See UAB documentation on "plagiarism" at: http://wuster.uab.es/web_argumenta_obert/unit_20/sot_2_01.html
