Prerequisites

You can do the TFG if you reach the fourth year of the degree. It would be interesting that the previous course the students already began to think about the subject, looking for topics and possible tutors.

The general protocol of the Faculty of Arts on the TFG can be found here: https://www.uab.cat/doc/Protocol-TFG

Objectives and Contextualisation

The studies of the Humanities Degree must conclude with the elaboration and defense of a final project (6 ECTS credits). This project is included in the complementary fourth-year training that the student has to study, along with the 54 optional credits corresponding to the last year of the degree. The unique training objective is the elaboration of a research, synthesis or applied work, that has a relation with the subjects of the degree.

Competences

  • Critically analysing the contemporary culture.
  • Properly using the resources and methodologies of the study of contemporary culture.
  • Students must be capable of collecting and interpreting relevant data (usually within their area of study) in order to make statements that reflect social, scientific or ethical relevant issues.
  • Students must be capable of communicating information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
  • Students must develop the necessary learning skills to undertake further training with a high degree of autonomy.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Communicating in a clear and appropriate manner an academic work.
  2. Indicating and discussing the main characteristics of the of a period and contextualizing them.
  3. Interpreting the main political and social currents of the Modern and Contemporary Period.
  4. Interpreting today's main events from physical, economic, social and cultural diversity.
  5. Organising with efficiency and profitability the autonomous part of the learning process.
  6. Recognising the most appropriate bibliographic databases in order to obtain sources of a specific issue.
  7. Relating the artistic creations from various periods with other cultural phenomena.

Content

The work represents 6 ECTS credits and this means about 150 hours of work that most of the students must do independently.

VERY IMPORTANT: In the Degree of Humanities, the monitoring of the TFG and the contact with the tutor is done through tfe.uab.cat obligatorily.

There are different types of work so that students can demonstrate their intellectual and work skills:

1. The research work to get started in this task.

2. A state of affairs on a particular topic, based on a bibliographic repertoire.

3. The work that collects documentation worked to show the reality of a topic.

4. The personal essay on a particular problem.

5. Work on a professional aspect that shows sections that have been worked on in the institution where the external practices have been carried out.

6. The work can be specified in more innovative formats, such as the elaboration of an audiovisual documentary or the preparation of a web space (accompanied by a brief written report that supports them).

The student can choose any topic they want related to the Degree of Humanities. You can also choose to do the TFG any professor of the Faculty (don’t need to have given a class in the Degree) and the professors of the Degree of those faculties that have given teaching in the Degree of Humanities.

** Proposal of TFG SUBJECTS - HUMANITIES **

These are some general ideas and proposals that you will need to specify.

You can also directly consult those teachers that you think are appropriate for your proposals even if they are not in this list.

Methodology

The work is individual and receives the supervision of the Tutor.

REMEMBER: the TFG is completely monitoring through tfe.uab.cat
Students will be able to choose a topic and a tutor from a list that will be provided at the beginning of the course. They may also propose a topic that can be accepted by a tutor, after assessing their viability.
It may change subject or tutor until April 1st.
The students will complete a document with a provisional title of the TFG and the name of the proposed tutor, with the signature of this one and will be given to the coordination. At the end of October, the Comission Degree will meet to review and approve the proposals.
Regarding the extension of the TFG: it is recommended that it be a text of about 25-40 pages. The standard extension of a page is 2.100 characters or 300 words. Therefore, the TFG extension would be around 84.000 characters or 12.000 words.

The oral presentation will be public and with a duration of 15 minutes, in front of two professors who will be able to ask questions.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

The monitoring of the TFG is done through the web tfe.uab.cat
The evaluation has different parts:

1. The follow-up of the TFG by the Coordination.
2. The follow-up by the tutor who has guided the project and represents the most important part of the final grade. The evaluation criteria that must be taken into account are: on the one hand, the final result of the work and, on the other, the process that the student has followed in its preparation, always with the approval of the Coordination. In this evaluation, competences related to work capacity, to the resolution of difficulties, learning in research methodology, planning, concretion of results, aptitude in writing and effectiveness towards a well-done job are valued.
3. The oral presentation: public exposure made by the student in front of two teachers. Each presentation of TFG has an expected duration of half an hour, of which 15 minutes must correspond to the oral presentation prepared by the student.
Two professors that will be chosen according to the subject of the work and the availabilities of the teaching staff will form the examining board.
The tutor will not be in the examining board.
The Commission of the Humanities Degree makes the designation of the examining board. This will take place during the last week of June or the first week of July. There will be according to themes for several TFG.
This evaluation will serve to exercise the skills related to the exposition of a subject: make it comprehensible to anyone and know how to express it in an appropriate way. The ability of the student, the suitability of the way of explaining himself, the talent in the choice of the resources he uses, the mastery of the subject, the ingenuity in the way of posing it, the sufficiency in making it affordable and the ability to convince of the importance of the work and its results.

Approximate calendar (it will be indicated in a more specific way through the application from September/October):
- October-November: tutoring to establish the objectives and structure of the project.
- December: delivery of some pages corresponding to a state of the art.
- March: second delivery.
- May: delivery of the body of work.
- 2023, June 11th: deadline for the delivery of the finished work with conclusions and with the corrections proposed by the tutor. The complete project must be delivered through tfe.uab.cat

- End of June/beginning of July: public exposition.

* In the event of a student committing any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade awarded to an assessment activity, the student will be given a zero for this activity, regardless of any disciplinary process that may take place. In the event of several irregularities in assessment activities of the same subject, the student will be given a zero as the final grade for this subject.
