Objectives and Contextualisation

  • Analyze the definitions of music and its influence on teaching practice.
  • Understand and value the social and cultural changes that influence musical consumption and the relationship of students with musical learning.
  • Recognize the value of music and music education as a bringer of social and cultural meanings.
  • Approach to different historiographical perspectives to obtain a critical view of the history of music and its application in the classroom.
  • Acquire a global perspective of the resources and technological applications of audio and video oriented to music education in secondary and high school.
  • Develop a critical view of music teaching in secondary and high school.
  • Delve into the characteristics and conditioning factors of musical language produced in different sociocultural fields.
  • Identify the processes that support the relationships between sociocultural gender categories and social musical behaviors in the contemporary western context.
  • Reflect about cultural diversity and its relations with the musical systems and their contexts of production and reception.
  • Know about active innovation projects in secondary music education.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Communicate effectively, both verbally and non-verbally.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of contexts and situations in which it is possible to apply the various contents that integrate the curriculum of Secondary and Baccalaureate, emphasizing the practical, creative and educational sensitivity that carries the musical culture group.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of cultural and educational value of music and content of the discipline taught in Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, and integrate these into the framework of science, culture and art.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of the history and recent developments of the music to convey a dynamic view of it and make sense of the music school, highlighting the genesis of musical knowledge.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of the theoretical-practice developments teaching and learning music.
  6. Effective use of integrated information and communications technology.
  7. Generate innovative and competitive proposals for research and professional activities.
  8. Possess learning skills necessary to carry out continuous training in both content and didactics of music, as well as general aspects of teaching.

T1. Music as a communication process and value system. Implications for thinking and musical activity in the classroom.

T3. Music as a social and cultural fact. The conceptualization of music from the perspective of cultural diversity and context.

Thematic bloc 2: Experiences and practical resources for music in the classroom

Methodology

The course has a seminar format and requires the active participation of the students both in the conceptual sessions and in the analysis of the innovation projects exposed.

Reflection on the concepts will be promoted and the potential of the exposed experiences will be explored through practical proposals, which will be critically reviewed among the module participants.

The course is face-to-face. Even so, virtual sessions can be carried out if there is an exceptional situation. Thus, the proposed methodology and evaluation may undergo some modification depending on the restrictions imposed by the health authorities

Assessment

Tasks, activities and percentages:

1)  Written test of theoretical and practical skills (30%)

2)  Portfolio including learning evidences of both thematic blocs (40%)

3)  Practical case. (20%)

4)  Active participation (10%)

In order to calculate the average and pass the course, it is necessary to obtain a grade of 4 or higher in the test, the practical case and the portfolio.

In case of not obtaining the minimum final mark to pass the course, the student must make a compensatory specific work.

To pass this course it is necessary for the student to show a good communicative competence (oral and written) as well as a good command of the vehicular language that appears in the teaching guide. Linguistic correction, writing and formal presentation will be considered in all activities. Students must be able to express themselves fluently and show a high degree of understanding of academic texts. An activity can be returned (not evaluated) or suspended if the professor considers that it does not meet these requirements.

In case that the student makes any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade of an assessment act, said act will be rated 0, regardless of the disciplinary process that may be instructed. In case that various irregularities occur in the acts of evaluation of the same subject, the final grade for this subject will be 0.

In case that the tests cannot be carried out in person, their format will be adapted (keeping the percentage) to the possibilities offered by the virtual tools of the UAB.The work, activities and class participation will be carried out through forums, wikis and / or discussion of exercises through Teams, ensuring that all students can access.
