In this module we want to analyze the current issues and controversies of bioethics, that is, the ethical problems posed by the development of sciences and techniques applied to human life. First, we need to go deeply into bioethics issues related to birth and death, the rights of patients, medical research, genetic manipulation and social inequalities in health. Secondly, we must analyze the conflicts and dilemmas that arise with the application of the so-called "principles of bioethics". Thirdly, there is the objective that students become aware of the moral conception of the person behind the approaches and currents of bioethics and their connection with democracy and a plural society. Finally, students are required to introduce the knowledge and use of the ethical codes in medicine and the functioning of the various medical and research ethics committees that exist today.

The module is structured in 10 sessions of 3½ hours.
The sessions have a mixed masterclass and seminar format. Students take an active part both with their presence and their participation: in the seminar format, students will work following the work methodology of practical cases.
In classes and tutorials, teachers monitor the development of module work.

"The evaluation will be continued and contains three elements: a) the oral presentation of a subject (40% of the final grade), b) the written presentation of a work (40%) and c) the active participation in the debates in the classroom (20% rest). The oral presentation will be on a subject of the first of the course and will be evaluated by the teacher who will give them. The written work will be on the rest of the course content and will be evaluated by the other teacher. The participation will be evaluated by the two teachers of the course. Each teacher will mark a date and place for the review of the evaluation tests. There will also be a recovery date that will be agreed with the Faculty. "
In the event that tests or exams cannot be taken onsite, they will be adapted to an online format made available through the UAB’s virtual tools (original weighting will be maintained). Homework, activities and class participation will be carried out through forums, wikis and/or discussion on Teams, etc. Lecturers will ensure that students are able to access these virtual tools, or will offer them feasible alternatives.
In the event of a student committing any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade awarded to an assessment activity, the student will be given a zero for this activity,
regardless of any disciplinary process that may take place. In the event of several irregularities in assessment activities of the same subject, the student will be given a zero as the final grade for this subject.
