There is no previous requirement in order to take this course.
Objectives and Contextualisation
The subject Literatura Catalana del segle XX(2) is compulsory for students of both the Degree of Studies of Catalan Language and Literature and of the combined degrees that include these same studies. The subject is quarterly, taught during the second semester and is closely linked to the Literatura Catalana del segle XX (1).
The formative objective of this subject is that the student learns to contextualize the high currents of Catalan literature of the twentieth century connected to universal literary traditions. The student must also know the writers and the most relevant works of post-war Catalan literature and should become familiar with the primary bibliography relating to this period and with the reading strategies that allow him/her to develop a critical discourse.

Content
1. The Post-War Period (1939-1959). Historical and cultural description.
1.1. Poetry. Predominance and function.
1.2. Narrative. The impact of exile. Resumptions of the genre.
1.3. Theatre. Professional theatre, clandestine theatre and chamber theatre. Beginnings of independent theatre.
1.4. The essay and non-imaginative prose.
2. Historical Realism (1959 - 1968)
2.1. Poetry. Several kinds of "realism".
2.2. Narrative. The Llorenç Villalonga and Mercè Rodoreda's options. Some uses of realism.
2.3. Theatre. Efforts to institutionalize independent theatre.
2.4. The essay and non-imaginative prose.
3. The 1970s and subsequent derivations. Postmodernity.
3.1. Poetry. Variety of poetics.
3.2. Narrative. The new voices and their progressive consolidation. The trends of the end of the century.
3.3. The Theatre. The ascension of the gesture theatre and the dilemmas of text theatre. Authors and groups.
* The contents of the different sessions and the compulsory books will be told in detail on the first day of course. Both will be uploaded to the Virtual Campus too.
Methodology
The subject is distributed in theoretical sessions and seminars.
Lectures have a panoramic and contextualizing character and include the commentary of criticism and theoretical texts.
Seminars focus on the analysis of compulsory books and supplementary texts. Students will have the list of mandatory readings on the first day. It is essential to come to class with the book and personal reading notes.

Assessment
1. Reading test: 10 %.
2. Individual exercises: 25 %.
3. A receptive and participative attitude during the course: 10 %.
5. Group exercises: 25 %
6. Exam: 305 %.
In order to pass the course, a minimum score of 5 is required. The course assessment is the result of the sum of the percentages of the whole assessment activities.
The correct use of the language will be taken into account in the evaluation. Papers will not be admitted after the deadline.
In the event that tests or exams cannot be taken onsite, they will be adapted to an online format made available through the UAB’s virtual tools (original weighting will be maintained). Homework, activities and class participation will be carried out through forums, wikis and/or discussion on Teams, etc. Lecturers will ensure that students are able to access these virtual tools, or will offer them feasible alternatives.
In the event of a student committing any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade awarded to an assessment activity, the student will be given a zero for this activity, regardless of any disciplinary process that may take place. In the event of several irregularities in assessment activities of the same subject, the student will be given a zero as the final grade for this subject.
Review procedures: students have a right to review their exercises with the teacher in a personal tutorial, on the set dates, never later than two weeks after the exercise/exam is marked.
The exam (25%) and individual exercises (25%) are susceptible to be reassessed.
The student will be entitled to the reassessment of the subject if he or she has been evaluated of the set of activities, the weight of which equals a minimum of 2/3 of the total grade of the subject. Students who are eligible for reassessments havegot a final average exam mark should be between 3.5 and 4.9. Reassessment will be an exam. The exam is awarded a Pass/Fail mark, andthe maximum possible mark is a 5.
