The aim of this subject is to show the importance of the national fact at the contemporary society.
The fundamental purpose of this subject is to interpret and understand the process of formation of nations and his history.
This subject is an essential introduction to the political, institutional, economic, social and cultural changes of different countries and states at the world.
UNIT 0 - Nation and nationalism at the contemporary world: a presentation
UNIT 1 - Nation, a historical category of the contemporary society
UNIT 2 – Nation and state: formation and evolution.
UNIT 3 - A theoretic and methodological approach at the contemporary national fact
UNIT 4 - Nation and state: analysis of the administrative structures.
UNIT 5 – Nationalism: description and comparison of different parts in the world.
Theoretical classes will present the historical structures of Nations and his evolution. We will analyse the different models of the Nations and Nationalism in the classroom.
Supervised Activities are an individualised teaching support in which a teacher attends to one o several students in their specific educational process about Nations and Nationalism.
Autonomous Activities represent the personal work and individual study. This includes personal study, preparing exams. library work, complementary reading, all of which are fundamental in autonomous learning.

Assessment is continuous. Students must provide evidence of their progress by completing tasks and tests. Task deadlines will be indicated in the course schedule on the first day of class.
Participation in the classroom: it refers at the presence and partiocipation in the classroom
Test: an exam about unit 2
Presentation and discussion; unit 1, unit3
Essay: Unit 4 and 5.
Reassessment
Students cannot be obtained 5 of de final mark.
Consist in one exam which contents the entire subject and his activities and the maximum mark is 5.
At the time of completion/delivery of each assessment activity, the teacher will inform (Moodle, SIA) of the procedure and date of revision of the grades.
The student will be classified as Non-evaluable when he has not delivered more than 30% of the evaluation activities.
In the event of a student committing any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade awarded to an assessment activity, the student will be given a zero for this activity, regardless of any disciplinary process that may take place. In the event of several irregularities in assessment activities of the same subject, the student will be given a zero as the final grade for this subject.
In the event that tests or exams cannot be taken onsite, they will be adapted to an online format made available through the UAB’s virtual tools (original weighting will be maintained). Homework, activities and class participation will be carried out through forums, wikis and/or discussion on Teams, etc. Lecturers will ensure that students are able to access these virtual tools, or will offer them feasible alternatives.
