Objectives and Contextualisation

 

Historical research requires mastery of specific methods and techniques, which this purpose is unrealizable. The subject is practical in nature and wishes to provide students, on the one hand, with the indispensable generic guidance on historical research and, on the other hand, methodological practical knowledge for the purpose that the student can already start using them. Throughout the course will be archives, libraries and documentation centers, the typology of documentary sources, the problems of their treatment and interpretation, figurative documentation with messages of strong content a strong content related to the exercise of power (such as numismatics, stealth, heraldry or vexilology). The gender perspective in history, genealogy development and the study of so-called family microhistory. Parallel related activities are also prepared and will inform the student at the beginning of the course.

  • Applying the main methods, techniques and instruments of the historical analysis.
  • Developing critical thinking and reasoning and communicating them effectively both in your own and other languages.
  • Identifying the main historiographical tendencies and critically analysing their development.
  • Students must be capable of collecting and interpreting relevant data (usually within their area of study) in order to make statements that reflect social, scientific or ethical relevant issues.
  • Students must be capable of communicating information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
  • Students must develop the necessary learning skills in order to undertake further training with a high degree of autonomy.

  12. Utilising the information collection tools such as bibliographical catalogues, archive inventories and electronic references.

Methodology

The subject has a part of content that will be exhibited mainly throughout the face classes and a practical part, which will include both technical and documentary research exercises. Since the knowledge acquired is the result of the research will be exhibited through written works as in oral presentations, it will be necessary a correct mastery of written and oral expression, since it is also an essential source of the formation of everything Historian. During the semester, one-off visits will be made in archives, libraries and other research centers that the teacher will specify at the beginning of the course.

Assessment

Written tests: there will be two written tests throughout the course, which will deal with the subject's agenda, worth more than 6 points out of 10.

Subject work: there will be a work of the subject valued at 3 points out of 10.

Attention is important, both in class and in all scheduled external activities.

The re-evaluation of the subject will be done according to the general regulations of the UAB.

The student will be classified as Non-evaluable when he has not delivered more than 30% of the evaluation activities.

At the time of completion/delivery of each assessment activity, the teacher will inform (Moodle, SIA) of the procedure and date of revision of the grades.

In the event of a student committing any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade awarded to an assessment activity, the student will be given a zero for this activity, regardless of any disciplinary process that may take place. In the event of several irregularities in assessment activities of the same subject, the student will be given a zero as the final grade for this subject.

In the event that tests or exams cannot be taken onsite, they will be adapted to an online format made available through the UAB’s virtual tools (original weighting will be maintained). Homework, activities and class participation will be carried out through forums, wikis and/or discussion on Teams, etc. Lecturers will ensure that students are able to access these virtual tools, or will offer them feasible alternatives.
