Objectives and Contextualisation

The subject "Use of the written French language" is part of the basic training of the students of the degree.
of French Studies as well as the students of the Grades of French and Catalan Studies, French and Spanish Studies and
Spanish, French and English Studies and French and Classical Studies. As a basic training subject
is a compulsory subject.
 
The content of this subject is aimed at the training in instrumental French language of the
student through the production and comprehension of documents of different typologies in current French language.
 
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
 
- understand the general information and all the important data of authentic and adapted written texts, of
varied length, differentiating facts from opinions and identifying the communicative intention of the author.
- to write in a guided way several texts in different supports, taking care of the lexicon, the structures and the opinions of the author.
elements of cohesion and coherence to mark the relationship between ideas and make them comprehensible to the reader.

Content

The course aims to develop a range of skills not only linguistic but also pragmatic, textual and sociocultural as well as an ability to learn to learn to learn. The development of these skills will be achieved by the written practice of the language which encompasses all its aspects (communicative, grammatical, lexical,...).

In this course comprehension and written expression will be the main work.

 1. On the reading

1.1. Approach to the reading process: verbalization or reading aloud; and comprehensive reading or access to the meaning and communicative intentions of the authors of the texts.

1.2. Quick and efficient reading: role of para-text and pre-text; partial reading and global comprehension.

1.3. Reading and note-taking (text structure, basic ideas and secondary ideas).

1.4. Destructing texts: drawing up diagrams and concept maps.

1.5.  Reading and summary, report and synthesis.

2. On written expression

2.0. The production process of any text: steps and activities to be carried out.

2.1 "Design" or "inventio": research and preparation of relevant and sufficient information for the text to be produced.

2.2 "Organisation": structuring of the information found and collected.

2.3 "Reframing": evaluation of the results of the search for information and the structuring of the text to be produced.

2.4 "Mise en mots": actual drafting of the text

2.5 "Revision and correction" of successive versions of the text to be produced.

2.6 "Layout": distribution of the latest version of the text on the paper page.

2.7. Activities to practice micro-skills, presented from a theoretical-practical point of view, in2.1., 2.2., 2.3., 2.4., 2.5. and 2.6.

2.8. Individual and/or team production of various texts (narrative texts, descriptions, letters, comments on the Internet, journalistic articles (news, reviews, analysis, personal reflection, etc.).

2.9.  Collective correction and self-correction of the texts produced.

2.10. Rewriting of texts already produced, transcoding,...

 

3. Systematic review of the fundamental morphosyntactic microstructures of the French language: this review will be conditioned by the gaps detected in students' written productions.

Methodology

The course of the use of written French language is instrumental and essentially practical. The emphasis in the training activities is on the active participation of the student in order to assimilate the competences foreseen in this teaching guide.
 
 In general terms, it will direct learning through the following set of techniques and actions:
 
 - Master class with ICT support and collective discussion
 
 - Practice of written expression in French language
 
 - Analysis of grammatical phenomena
 
 - Comprehensive reading of texts
 
 - Realization of diagrams, concept maps and summaries
 
 - Individual and group exercises (letters, invitations, narrations...)
 
 - Accomplishment of autonomous activities: exercises, preparation of the proves, lectures, writing, research of information to Internet...
 
 - Intercanvis a classe (student-teacher, student-student)

Assessment

EVALUATION
 
The evaluation of the course will be continuous and will include the feina feta throughout the course, both the different proves (25%) and the lliurats works (25%) during the whole semester and the participation in the activities of the class (25%). In addition, there will be a final test (25%).
 
The assessment activities will be carried out to the extent that it is necessary to address the different points of the programme.
 
The revisions of the qualifications will take place in the classroom (global revision) and in the professor's office (individual revision), a copy corrected, assessed and returned to the students the work or the exercise or the written proofs. At the time each assessment activity is carried out, the student will be informed of the date on which the qualifications were reviewed.
 
To participate in the recovery, the student must have previously been assessed in a set of activities the weight of which is equivalent to a minimum of 2/3 of the total qualification. Only those students who have been suspended have the right to recover and have a final average score of 3,5. Oral presentations and fees related to daily teaching activity are exempt from recovery. This will consist of an examination of syntheses of the recoverable part.

A student who has carried out less than 2/3 of the assessment activities will be considered 'NOT AVAILABLE'.
 
 
 
The plagiarism: The total and partial plagiarism of any exercise will automatically consider a SUSPENS (0) of the plagiarized exercise. PLAGIAR is to copy from unidentified sources of a text, either a single phrase or more, which is to be passed for own production (including copying phrases or fragments from the Internet and affirming them without modification to the text that is presented as proper), and it is a serious offense.
 
French students have to meet the same assessment conditions as the rest of the students. The responsibility for monitoring training and assessment activities lies exclusively with the student.

En effet, outre la conjugaison des verbes français, on y trouve des synonymes du verbe conjugué, les sens du verbe en question, les emplois du verbe et les tournures où l’on peut le trouver. Par ailleurs, cette page offre une grammaire concernant le verbe (modes, voix, temps, etc.),  une section sur l’orthographe et la ponctuation, des exercices et un traducteur.

FRALICA: site produit en Belgique francophone par Philippe van Goethem. On peut y dénicher de nombreuses ressources concernant la communicationla lecture et l’écriture en français. Il s’agit d’un site qui concerne tout à fait l’enseignement et l’apprentissage qu’on doit assurer dans notre UE « Usage de la langue française écrite ».

Deux citations, mises en exergue in page « home » de ce site annoncent les objectifs de l’auteur : "On apprend beaucoup plus en agissant, en résolvant des problèmes, en rédigeant des textes, enpréparant des exposés qu'en assistant à des cours" (M.-D.
