Objectives and Contextualisation

The objective of this module is to provide students an expert knowledge related to psycho-oncology and palliative care, in order to be able to design intervention or research projects based on rigor and scientific evidence.

  • The student will be able to understand the illness process and the emotional reactions that the patient's disease has from the biopsychosocial point of view, from the diagnosis, treatment, survival, relapse or end of life.
  • The factors involved in the well-being, the suffering and the quality of life of the patient and their family will be analyzed during illness and after patient dying in the grieving process of family members.
  • Psychooncology and palliative care are presented as a continuing care process with its differentiating characteristics both with respect to the psychological interventions that are performed as well as the emotional and adaptive reactions experienced by patients, their families or relatives.
  • It includes the discussion and critical analysis of the main lines of research in both psychooncology and palliative care, as well as the specific difficulties of studying these areas, where professors who are experts in the subject, can also explain their own experience of care and research.
