If the student takes the master's degree in two years, enrolling on this subject in the last academic year is advisable.
Being familiar with the formal requirements of an academic paper is highly recommended.
This subject is dedicated exclusively to elaborating an original and unpublished reflection and/or research work written individually under the supervision of one of the specialist professors of the master's degree. The TFM can be a scientific production or an applied investigation concerning an unprecedented aspect of the performing arts.
The Final Master's Project (TFM) is an original and unpublished research project, written by each student of the master's degree in agreement with the professor assigned to her/him and submitted for evaluation by a commission of three teachers (PhD) in public session.
The research will be carried out based on three axes: (i) a theoretical or historical investigation of the performing arts; (ii) a theoretical reflection and conceptualization of a complete creative process (a play, a theatre, a show) or (iii) an edition of a theatrical text or theoretical or critical material on performing arts.
TFM must have the character of specialised academic research and comply with the conventions that apply to it.

Methodology
The Master's Thesis (TFM) is an original and unpublished research paper, written by each master's student in agreement with the assigned tutor and submitted for evaluation by a committee of three professors-doctors in a public session.
The research will be carried out based on three axes of study: (i) A theoretical or historical investigation of the performing arts; (ii) a theoretical reflection and conceptualization around a complete creation process (a play, a show) or (iii) an edition of a theatrical text or theoretical or critical material on the performing arts.
The work must have the character of specialized academic research and must comply with the conventions that are inherent to it.
Work calendar
Preliminary session for those enrolled in the TFM with the module coordinator, in which the guidelines to be followed for a good individual development of the TFM will be explained (see the calendar below).
The student will present to the coordinator a proposal for the topic of their work (provisional title, very brief summary, summary bibliography). The module coordinator, with the approval of the MUET Academic Committee, will assign a tutor according to the characteristics of the chosen topic.
Orientation and discussion sessions with the tutor: (i) final choice of topic; (ii) subsequent approval by the coordinator, and (iii) orientation sessions with the tutor on the preparation of the work: consultations on the bibliography, and preparation and presentation of a provisional work outline.
Writing of a report containing a brief presentation of: a) presentation of the TFM; b) starting hypothesis; c) research objectives and questions; d) status of the bibliographic issue; e) work methodology; f) provisional index; g) significant advances; and h) doubts and problems. Report length: 4 pages (8,400 characters with spaces) maximum. This report must be sent to the tutor and the module coordinator within the deadlines established by the TFM calendar. The student will receive the appropriate feedback on their document.
Preparation of the work: (i) submission of the work in parts according to the tutor's instructions; (ii) submission of a first complete draft of the work within the deadline established by the TFM calendar, and (iii) submission of the work: one copy for each member of the panel, one copy to the module coordinator through the virtual campus and another for the Integrated Departmental Administrative Support Unit for Philologies / Management of Third Cycle Degrees in Philologies <uisad.filologies.tercer.cicle@uab.cat>.
No work will be accepted after the established deadline.
6. Publication of the committees, dates and presentation rooms (see calendar). The student must deliver a copy of the work submitted to each member of the committee.

Procedures
The methodology adopted in the preparation of the TFM will depend on the chosen topic and the corresponding tutor.
The tutor's individual advice is combined with the support of the module coordination during the process of preparing the TFM.
The following general considerations must be taken into account regarding the characteristics of the work:
1. The TFM must be between 25 (62,500 spaces including blanks or 11,000 words, approx.) and 60 pages (150,000 spaces including blanks or 27,000 words approx.). See the complete presentation rules on the virtual campus.
2. Studies that are not original or unpublished will not be accepted. Total or partial plagiarism will result in immediate failure of the module.
3. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is not permitted in any of the phases. Any work that includes fragments generated with AI will be considered a lack of academic honesty and will result in the activity being evaluated with a 0 and cannot be recovered, or greater sanctions in serious cases.
4. TFM papers can be written in Catalan or Spanish. The works must observe an appropriate use of the linguistic register, grammar and spelling of the language in which they are written. Poorly written thesis papers may be excluded from the defense by the tutor or negatively assessed by the tutor or negatively assessed by the tribunal.
5. All sources used must be exhaustively referenced. The works must conform to the MLA ( https://www.mla.org/MLA-Style) or Harvard ( https://library.aru.ac.uk/referencing/harvard.htm) citation rules.
6. In the event that the TFM is associated with a creative process, the student must consider at least the following aspects: starting hypothesis, research questions, theoretical references, artistic precedents (contextualization), methodological explanation, monitoring and documentation of the process, and finally, brief conclusions. If the creative process includes third parties, signed permissions for the use of their image and/or their participation must be included in the annexes to the work.
7. All TFMs must contain brief conclusions related to the objectives formulated in the introduction.
8. All TFMs may contain an appendix with unpublished documentation(textual documents, images, audiovisual recordings, etc.). Permission to use must be included if applicable.
9. The TFM may only be submitted and defended with the approval of the tutor (signed with date).
10. The tutor must oversee the process of preparing the TFM with face-to-face tutorials (at least 3) and has the authority to not authorize the presentation of those works that he or she considers insufficient or that have failed to meet the submission deadlines or any of the established rules.
11. The change of tutor is only authorized in extreme cases and for very justified reasons. From March 1, no change will be authorized.
12. The cover of the TFM will include the full title, the name of the author, the tutor, the name of the master's degree and the course (see the model in the Moodle classroom).
13. The public defense of the TFM is in person and can only be carried out on the days scheduled at the beginning of the course according to the module calendar (Works outside the established limit will not be admitted. Regarding the evaluation, see below.
14. The preceding points, which govern the operation of the module, do not contemplate exemptions or exceptions.
Note: 15 minutes of a class will be reserved, within the calendar established by the center/degree, for the completion by students of the evaluation surveys of the performance of the teaching staff and the evaluation of the subject/module.
Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

The module will be evaluated based on the presentation and public defense of the TFM. It is necessary to have previously attended the mandatory coordination and tutoring sessions.
The work, presented with the approval of the tutor, will be evaluated by a panel appointed by the module coordinator, with the consensus of the Master's Academic Committee.
The tutor will submit a TFM evaluation report to the panel. Their evaluation will represent 20% of the final grade.
The panel will be made up of 3 specialist professors (PhD)
The public defense session is face-to-face and must last a maximum of one hour and will be distributed in the following way:
- 15 minutes of presentation for the author of the work, in which they must only present the conclusions and the strong and weak points
of the work;
- 30 minutes for the members of the panel (10 minutes each)
- 15 minutes of debate/reply/deliberation.
The members of the panel will complete the TFM evaluation report, and once signed by all three, it will be submitted to the UISAD of Philologies of the UAB.
Evaluation criteria (see the detailed deployment of the rubrics in the Moodle classroom)
1. Tutor's report: 20%
2. Panel evaluation of the written report: 60%
3. Oral defense: 20%
Additional notes
1. The TFM is subject to the same ordinary and extraordinary review processes as any other subject in the master's degree.
2. In the event that the student commits any irregularity that could lead to a significant variation in the grade of an assessment act (plagiarism, improper use of AI, etc.), this assessment act will be graded 0, regardless of the disciplinary process that may be instructed. If several irregularities occur, the final grade for this subject will be zero. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies is not permitted in any of its phases. Any work that includes fragments generated with AI will be considered alack of academic honesty and will result in the activity being graded 0 and not being able to be recovered, or greater sanctions in serious cases.
3. In the event that, due to force majeure, the defense cannot be carried out in person, its format will be adapted to the possibilities offered by the UAB's virtual tools.
