Prerequisites

The student can enroll in their Bachelor's Degree Final Project (TFG) once they have completed 160 credits; of which, compulsorily, all those corresponding to the first year. However, it is recommended to enroll in the last year of studies of the Degree.


Objectives and Contextualisation

The TFG is a work that has to allow a global and synthetic evaluation of the specific and transversal competences associated with the degree. The main objective, according to the memory of the Degree of History, is the realization of a work of bibliographic synthesis (state of arts or assay) or of a work on documentary material, about degree subjects. The TFG must be a fundamentally academic work, not a research work in the strict sense of the term, which is reserved for the Master's Thesis (TFM).
 
The teacher will tutor the work and guide the students during the elaboration process. The works have to have an original character and are made individually. The students will have to demonstrate that they have associated the competencies and are capable of applying the basic learning results acquired during their academic training at the Faculty (rather critical, effective written and oral communication, high degree of autonomy in research documentary, bibliographical and data, and in the elaboration, argumentation and defense of the TFG, etc.).

 


Competences

  • Developing critical thinking and reasoning and communicating them effectively both in your own and other languages.
  • Students must be capable of applying their knowledge to their work or vocation in a professional way and they should have building arguments and problem resolution skills within their area of study.
  • Students must be capable of collecting and interpreting relevant data (usually within their area of study) in order to make statements that reflect social, scientific or ethical relevant issues.
  • Students must be capable of communicating information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
  • Students must develop the necessary learning skills in order to undertake further training with a high degree of autonomy.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Communicating in your mother tongue or other language both in oral and written form by using specific terminology and techniques of Historiography.
  2. Formulating the key issues of an historical problem.
  3. Identifying the main and secondary ideas and expressing them with linguistic correctness.
  4. Organising and planning the search of historical information.
  5. Producing an individual work that specifies the work plan and timing of activities.
  6. Properly using the specific vocabulary of History.
  7. Solving problems autonomously.
  8. Undertaking research in relation to problems of historical nature.
  9. Using the characteristic computing resources of the field of History.

Content

The TFG consists of:
• The preparation and presentation of a topic that allows a global and synthetic assessment of the basic and general skills associated with the History degree.
• The search for documentation, bibliography, with the selection and critical analysis of the specific literature of the chosen topic.
• The approach and writing of the theoretical framework, hypotheses and conclusions.
• Complying with the tutorial calendar.
• The written and oral presentation of the work.
The body of the work will occupy a maximum of 40 pages (2,100 characters/page) and a minimum of 20 pages, discounting the chapters of acknowledgement, motivation and bibliography, as well as complementary information (images, graphs, maps, appendices, etc.). This extension includes the entire TFG: title, index, summaries (one in the TFG language and the other in English) and five keywords (in the TFG language and in Catalan/Spanish), general text and notes. The minimum and maximum extensions must be respected exactly by the students and failure to comply with them implies non-evaluation of the TFG.
The typeface that must be used is Times New Roman (size 12 in the text and 10 in the footnotes or endnotes) with 1.5 point spacing. The teaching staff will be able to provide guidance on citation criteria for more specific documentary or philological sources. The bibliography and notes must be referenced according to the guidelines available at the UAB Library Service
The students will take into account the guidelines of the Equality Observatory of the Autonomous University of Barcelona on the gender perspective in research and the use of inclusive language.

Assignment Programming. Despite being listed as a six-month subject, given the public presentation of the TFG at the end of the second quadrimeter, the elaboration timeframe is annual. The tutorial sessions will be held throughout the annual academic year. During the course, the coordination of the subject will call a series of meetings to explain the objectives of the work to be done and the procedure for assigning tutors. The final version of TFG will be delivered to the assignment coordination as the maximum date on June 13, 2025 through the moodle classroom together with the tutorial monitoring form. This submission will be the official record. 
Choose topic and tutor. The job thematic choice is free for students, who may also request the direction of a particular professor of the History degree. It will be the teachers’ ultimate decision to accept the TFG’s tutorship. On the other hand, there are particular limitations on the number of TFGs that can be assumed by teachers of some areas of knowledge, which will be communicated in the information sessions. The final assignment of subject and tutor will be officially communicated by the coordination of the subject to teachers and students.
Development of tutorials. Considering the diversity of the themes and methodologies of TFGs, there is a tutorial development protocol that is both a job planning for students and teachers. The mandatory and minimum four tutorials will be as follows:
  • A first tutorial to specify the TFG theme with the learner, delimit it and set an approximate schedule for performing the different tasks that will be done. In this first tutorship, students will be charged with searching for the bibliography and documentation needed to do the work. It must be carried out by 11 October 2024.
  • In a second tutorship, the bibliography contributed by the students will be commented on(and, if applicable, completed). The following will be recommendedreadings that allow you to make a first outline of the work, will provide you with methodological guidelines and will set an approximate deadline for the completion of TFG. It must be carried out by 13 December 2024.
  • A third tutorial will comment and adjust the scheme of the work the student has done. An approximate deadline will be set for the delivery of a fully drafted TFG, including the critical apparatus and, if applicable, the appropriate annexes. The extension of this text may not exceed 1/3 of the final work extension. It must be carried out by 21 February 2025.
  • In a fourth tutorship, the faculty will comment in detail on the text drafted, so that the students are well aware of the positive and/or improvement aspects of their work, both in terms of form and content. It must be carried out by 25 April 2025.
On that basis, more tutorials can be made (or not) to resolve specific consultations, doubts that may arise and, in particular, to establish the final conclusions. The text will not be reviewed again before the evaluation.
Sometime before the oral defense of the TFG, the faculty will have to give guidelines to the students on the development of this act, with recommendations on the best oral presentation. 
Each of these tutories must be recorded, by signing a form provided by the subject by the teacher and the students. Student attendance at these four minimum and established dates is mandatory. Failure to comply with this rule implies non-evaluation of TFG.

 

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

According with the protocol of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts approved on 15 March 2024, the assessment of the TFG in its written format and in its public presentation will be carried out by a teaching staff committee, the composition of which will be determined by the teaching committee of the History degree. The committee will be approved by the subject coordinator, at the proposal of the tutor. One of the members may be the tutor who has supervised the TFG. The final mark for each TFG is established on the basis of the following percentages:
 
60% of the mark is assessed on the basis of the written report. Part of this mark will take into account the monitoring of tutorials throughout the course and the formal aspects of presentation of the TFG (spelling, syntactic or lexical correctness and written expression, bibliographical and documentary citations, use of terminology and historical vocabulary). A penalty of 0.10 points per syntactic or spelling mistake may be applied, up to a maximum of 2 points on the final mark. Repeated faults will be deducted. This percentage of the final mark will be fixed by the tutor who will draw up a reasoned report of the grade.
The remaining 40% of the mark will be assessed on the basis of the public presentation of the TFG by the students before the same teaching committee, which will also take into account the contents of the work in its marking. The subject coordination will publish the date and place of the public reading of the TFG. The presentation by the students will have a maximum duration of 15 minutes. The committee may ask questions and request clarifications on the TFG during the presentation, which will have a maximum total duration of 30 minutes.
As a guideline, the committee will take into account the expository values, instrumental resources and expressive sufficiency of the student, in accordance with the following points:
Orality. This involves assessing the aspects of the oral presentation (understandable explanation,correct and appropriate vocabulary, coherence of the discourse, gestures, explanatory rhythm, etc.). In general, the suitability of the way in which the dissertation is explained will be assessed;
Expository resources. This involves assessing the relationship between the discourse and the means used to facilitate its understanding: appropriateness and complexity of the computer or technical aids used, accuracy and correctness of the materials, originality and communicative novelty... In general, the aptitude in the choice and use of expository resources will be assessed;
Structure. This involves assessing the structure in the planning of the exhibition. In general, elements such as the balance between the ideas and theses presented, the clarity and time used, the rhythm of the discourse and the appropriate gestures will be considered;
Interest. This involves assessing the interest aroused by the presentation of the subject). In general, sufficiency and personality will be assessed in order to convince of the importance of the work and its results.
In the event that the public presentation cannot be made in person, the format will be adapted (maintaining the weighting) to the possibilities offered by the virtual tools of the UAB.
In relation to the awarding of the qualification of Matrícula de Honor (MH). The achievement of a 9-10 out of 10 as a final mark will imply a grade of Excellent. The TFGs evaluated with Excellent, which are proposed to the maximum grade of MH by the commissions with a sufficiently reasoned report, will be considered by another specific commission.
This committee, made up of the degree's teaching committee and the subject coordinator, will decide whether to award the MH grade in accordance with the administrative provisions. The committee will examine the TFG, compliance with the formal requirements, as well as the reasoned and evaluative report. It will base the final ranking on a calculation that takes into account 75% of the TFG mark and 25% of thestudent's transcript.
TFGs graded with MH may be published in the Digital Document Repository of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Students may request this, with the approval of the tutor, to the subject coordinator. The Libraries Service provides tutorials on the formal adaptation of the TFG to the requirements of digital publishing.
Any TFG that is not endorsed by the tutor, that does not meet the minimum or maximum formal length requirements, that has not complied with the tutorial calendar or that is not submitted in the established dates and formats will be considered "Not assessable". Any TFG that has not undergone the public presentation on the assigned date will also be considered "Not evaluable".
If the tutor or the committee detects plagiarism or the use of artificial intelligence, it will communicate it to the coordination of the subject that can qualify the TFG to zero, in application of the commitment that the student signs at the time of enrolment to respect the rules on the originality of the work. 
Teachers will have to reason their qualifications. The FTT is subject to the same processes of ordinary review and extraordinary review of any other subject of the degree. 
The TFG has only one call and cannot be recovered.
This subject does not incorporate single assessment.
