Methodology

The protagonist in the teaching-learning process is the student, and successful completion of the course requires active involvement in learning, active listening skills, respectful participation in classroom debates, independent work, self-regulation, and responsibility throughout the process.

Students should consider that the Virtual Campus is the official communication space for the course. They are responsible for staying attentive to the news and information posted during the procedure.

The methodology involves continuous work through:

Theoretical and practical classes led by the professor:  lectures and practical sessions with I.C.T. support, viewing and discussing ethnographic documentaries and films in the classroom.

Discussion seminars for texts or audiovisual materials:  debate sessions and individual or group participation, both in and outside the classroom, on readings or audiovisual materials.

Field trips:  scheduled visits to museums, spaces, or exhibitions related to the course content.

Preparation and presentation of assignments:  information search, reading and understanding of texts; development, writing, and presentation of tasks; definition of keywords, search strategies, and bibliographic databases; creating posters, reviews, individual or group critical essays, project-based work; public presentation of assignments.

Study and personal work:  comprehensive reading of required texts, information search, expanding the syllabus, creating outlines, concept maps, and summaries of materials covered in class, readings, and independent research work.

TUTORING: Personalized student support in the professor's office or classroom, individually or in groups. As previously agreed, Tutoring sessions will occur in the professor's office or via video conferencing.

COMMUNICATION WITH THE PROFESSOR: Through the Virtual Campus email to address specific doubts or request an appointment if unable to attend the office hours specified by the professor on the first day of class and the Virtual Campus.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

EVALUATION SYSTEM:

CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT:

The evaluation of the subject is understood as a continuous and progressive process that extends throughout the teaching period and is developed through the completion of different evaluation activities:

- Exam (30% of the final grade.  The exam must be passed to calculate the average with the other grades): a written exam covering all the content worked during the course (through theoretical classes, readings, and activities).

- Assignment (50% of the final grade): group work on a topic chosen by the students, which includes a theoretical part (reading an ethnography) and a practical part (observation and interview). The work will be exhibited in poster format at the end of the course in the faculty.

The assignment includes several partial submissions, and it is mandatory to have at least one tutorial with the professor to ensure a good choice of topic, selected ethnography, and the ethnographic part.

The final grade of the assignment will be individualized, considering the collectively performed part and individual evidence of the student's process in completing the task and presenting the poster.

- Classroom participation (20% of the final grade. This module is not recoverable): classroom discussions of mandatory readings and practical activities (debates, video screenings, exercises, etc.). Evidence of participation will be the written contributions derived from the activities carried out in the classroom. Additionally, voluntary museum visits will be scheduled to complement or enhancethe participation grade.

Suppose a student wants to opt for continuous evaluation but has justifiable reasons that prevent regular attendance to classroom activities. In that case, he/she must inform the professor at the beginning of the course to find an alternative method of evaluating participation.

SINGLE ASSESSMENT:

- Exam (30% of the final grade. The exam must be passed to calculate the average with the other grades): a written exam covering all the content covered during the course (through theoretical classes, readings, and activities).

- Assignment (50% of the final grade): Group work on a topic chosen by the students, which includes a theoretical part (reading an ethnography) and a practical part (observation and interview). The work will be exhibited in poster format at the end of the course in the faculty.  It is mandatory to have at least one tutorial with the professor to ensure a good choice of topic, selected ethnography, and the ethnographic part.

- Written reflection exercise linking the course topics with all the mandatory readings (20% of the final grade).

PROCESS OF THE EVALUATION SYSTEM:

At the beginning of the course, the schedule will be provided with the deadlines for submitting assignments, discussing mandatory readings, museum visits, and the exam date. The list of compulsory readings, available in PDF format on the Virtual Campus, will also be provided.

During each evaluation activity, the professor will inform the students (in class and via the Virtual Campus) about the procedure and date for reviewing the grades.

RETAKE PROCEDURE:

The student must have beenpreviously evaluated in the exam and the assignment (CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT) or complete all the planned assessments (SINGLE ASSESSMENT) to access to retake.

A minimum final grade of 5 must be obtained to pass the course, resulting from the average of the rates for each module according to their percentage. However, the exam must be passed with a minimum grade of 5 to calculate the standard with the other rates.

If the student is eligible for evaluation but fails the exam or the assignment, they can recover them in the retake. The retake will consist of an exam for the failed part. Classroom participation cannot be recovered.

Students who meet the criteria to be eligible for evaluation and have obtained a minimum final average grade of 3.5 can opt for the retake.
The same assessment method as continuous assessment will be used.

CONDITIONS FOR "NOT EVALUABLE" QUALIFICATION:

Students will obtain a Not assessed/Not submitted course grade unless they have submitted the work and assisted to the examen.
Absence or late submission of evaluation activities without duly justified and documented reasons means those activities will not be evaluated. Evaluation evidence that does not adhere to the formatting standards of the assignment guidelines and rubrics will not be accepted.
In the event of a student committing any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade awarded to an assessment activity, the student will be given a zero for this activity, regardless of any disciplinary process that may take place. In the event of several irregularities in assessment activitiesof the same subject, the student will be given a zero as the final grade for this subject.
