Objectives and Contextualisation

- Acquire work and cultural experience in the fields of scientific heritage and communication.
										
											- Apply the knowledge acquired in the master's degree to professional activities in these areas.
										
											- Orientation with respect to integration in the labor market.

This module of the Communication specialty aims to satisfy the social and cultural need of experts in History of science, aware of the historical importance of scientific and technological heritage, who are able to manage it and disseminate it.

The module is compulsory for those students who have completed module M3, Material culture, heritage and scientific communication; in this way, this module consitutes the achievement of the professional orientation.
The module allows students to do internships related to management, preservation, conservation, study and communication of science and its heritage.

The students will have to elaborate later a Master's thesis (module M9) that collects the work done and discusses its relationship with the professional objectives and of the master's degree, particularly with those of module M3 Material culture, heritage and scientific communication.
The development of this practicum is based on the signing of agreements between one of the universities coordinators of the master and different companies and institutions related to the heritage and communication of the science.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Adapt knowledge of the heritage to the communicative context.

Content

This module includes specific programming, orientation, monitoring and closing sessions that will take place both
										
											in the first as in the second semester.
Sessions in the first semester will coincide with those of module M3 Material culture, heritage and scientific communication.
Orientation and organization sessions of the practices, 1st semester: 1. Presentation of the module. Internship proposals.
2. Distribution of internship positions.
Internship control and monitoring tutorials, 2nd semester: 3. General organization of internships. 4. Monitoring of internships. Considerations on the elaboration of the report of practices (project of Master's thesis). 5. Synthesis session, delivery of the final version of the Master's Thesis Project and discussion of the internships.

Methodology

The internship will take place over a period of approximately nine weeks in the second semester (with a maximum
										
											of a total of 225 hours, at a rate of approximately 4 hours per day or 20 hours per week), between the months of February and
										
											May, as detailed below. Students will have the category of students in internships, without any contractual relationship with the company and without remuneration.
										
											
										
											The internships involve the incorporation of the students in the processes of generation, documentation, writing,
										
											production, edition and / or distribution of scientific-technological content, and / or scientific-technological heritage management.
										
											Often, and depending on the collaborating entities and companies, the practices are articulated through the
										
											preparation and realization of concrete projects executable in the described time period, so that this
										
											collaboration is a real contribution to these processes.
										
											
										
											The person or persons of the receiving entity in charge of the students will be the external tutors and will supervise the
										
											work and the contribution of the students in the practices, in collaboration with the coordinator of the module and
										
											M3 teachers (internal tutors).
										
											
										
											In case the activities and tests of the subject cannot be done in person, its format will be adapted
										
											(maintaining its weighting) to the possibilities offered by the UAB virtual tools. Homework, activities and
										
											class participation will be through forums, wikis and / or exercise discussions through TEAMS, etc.
										
											The teacher will ensure that the student has access to it or will offer them alternative available means.
										
											
										
											Note: 15 minutes of a class will be reserved, within the calendar established by the center / degree, for the
										
											fulfilling by the students of the surveys of tutors and of the subject / module.
 

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

The student will write a report on the development of the internships with a maximum extension
										
											of 3,000 words (8 pages) including bibliography. The report will be equivalent to a Master's thesis project
										
											(specific instructions will be given in the follow-up sessions). It will include a brief description of the aims
										
											of the internships, the methodology that has been used and the activities carried out; it may include a preliminary discussion
										
											about the results. The student will also give an oral presentation of his/her Master's thesis project.
										
											
										
											The report will be evaluated by the internal tutor (50%); the oral presentation, because it is oriented to the elaboration
										
											of the Master's thesis, will be evaluated by the coordinators of the modules M4 and M5 (25%); and the final grade of the module is
										
											completed with reports of the interships made by the external tutors in each case (25%).
										
											Students will be graded as "Non-Assessable" when the activities carried out
										
											have a weighting of less than 67% in the final grade.
										
											
										
											In case the activities and tests of the subject cannot be done in person, its format will be adapted
										
											(maintaining its weighting) to the possibilities offered by the UAB virtual tools. The homework,
										
											activities and participation in class will be carried out through forums, wikis and / or discussions of exercises through
										
											TEAMS, etc. The teacher will ensure that the student can access or offer alternative resources,
										
											which must be within their reach.
