Objectives and Contextualisation
The main objective of this module is to ensure the acquisition of competencies and skills necessary for understanding the total social organization of work and care, the unequal distribution of this work between different social groups and the main policies adressing gender inequalities. This knowledge provides the expertise to face the different realities and challenges of care work and welfare in European societies.

- Put forward innovative proposals for the relevant field of study.
- To apply the gender approach in the analysis of the relationship among labour market, cares and social inequality.
- Use and manage bibliography and IT resources in the field of study.

- Apply the knowledge acquired to the analysis of welfare policies and suggest guidelines for designing and implementing these.
- Identify the main concepts, categories and theories behind gender-based approaches to work and welfare.
- Identify the main problem areas of social care in European societies.
- Interpret the main lines of intervention on the relationship between work, welfare and gender inequalities.
- Propose lines of action on male-female equality policies and policies on working hours, based on gender.
- Put forward innovative proposals for the relevant field of study.

1. Coneptual framework: Work, Time and Gender.
2. The concept of gender and body: Social inequality and corporal stratification
3. Corporality as a patriarchal, colonial, capitalist project: Corporality as a political object.
4. Care work: from the private sphere to the public sphere
5. Models of Welfares and social organization of care in Europe: crisis, austerityand challenges fro equality policies.
6. The challenges of Equality Policies
7. Changes in the Sexual Division of Labor: new subjects, new realities
8. Towards a new Social Organization of Care: Time policies, care policies.
Methodology
The module is developed in the form of a seminar. This implies the presence and active participation of students (discussion and presentation of texts and group activities, among others). It is necessary to guarantee a minimum of 80% attendance at the sessions of the module.
Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment
The module as a whole will be evaluated. The continuous evaluation incorporates three types of evidence:
1) Active participation in the analysis and disussion of readings (10%). The details of the activities will be available on the virtual campus.
2) An individual essay on the state of the theoretical question in relation to some of the proposed topics in the module as a whole (50%).
3) Group activities (40%).
All deliveries must comply with basic academic standards and requirements.
It is necessary to guarantee 80% of the class attendance.
No reassessment activities are planned.
