Prerequisites

Is recommend that the student has been acquired basic competencies in Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Anatomy and Physiology.

It is desirable knowledge of psychological bases of health status and disease and interpersonal communication.

To carry out the clinical practices in the Paediatrics, Obstetrics or Gynaecology areas, is recommend has passed or has registered in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or Paediatrics subjects.  

The student will acquire the commitment of preserving the confidentiality and professional

Secrecy of the data that he may have access for reasons of learning in the assistance services.

Objectives and Contextualisation

It’s an optional subject that it is possible to carry out from the third year of the Degree of Medicine.  The general objective is that the student becomes familiar with the professional practice in the real context.

  • Establish a diagnostic approach and a well thought-out strategy for action, taking account of the results of the anamnesis and the physical examination, and the results of the appropriate complementary tests carried out subsequently.

  • Recognize one's role in multi-professional teams, assuming leadership where appropriate, both for healthcare provision and for promoting health.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Assess the need, indications, contraindications, chronology, risk, benefits and costs of each examination.
  2. Assess the relationship between efficacy and risk in the main therapeutic interventions.
  3. Be able to work in an international context.

  5. Compare one's own opinions with those of colleagues and other healthcare professionals as a basis for teamwork.
  6. Critically assess the results of complementary examinations, taking their limitations into account.
  7. Demonstrate, in professional activity, a perspective that is critical, creative and research-oriented.
  8. Establish a method for complementary examinations, in accordance with the standard process and the diagnostic expectations.
  9. Indicate suitable therapeutic interventions for the main maternal and infant health problems.
  10. Order signs and symptoms to perform a differential syndromic diagnosis.
  11. Use information and communication technologies in professional practice.

Content

The student will choose in which area of care they want to enrolled: obstetrics, gynaecology or paediatrics.

In the clinical practices the students will learn about:

  • General aspects of the clinical relationship and the concepts of health and disease
  • Assistance methodology
  • Etiology, physiopathology, semiology and clinical propaedeutic
  • diagnostic and therapeutic procedures of the most frequent diseases
  • exploration of different organs
  • Gynaecological Surgical procedures and the control of their consequences.
  • Obstetrics, gynaecologic and paediatrics syndromes

 

The clinical experience will included the assistance to the clinical sessions, continuous training sessions and other functions that the service has scheduled.

Methodology

1. The student must to look for a tutor (it must be from de UAB) and a Clinical Department where he will be able to develop the activities.   These activities must have minimum duration.

2. The student will give to the tutor an activity proposal (a specific application sheet). The application must be submitted to the HTU, to the Coordinator of the Subject. 

3. HTU will notify to the student that the proposal has been authorized.

4. At the end of the healthcare practice, the student will get a final grade for the activities carried out during this period of time.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

During the healthcare practice, the student will record the most significant clinical experiences and summarize the content of the sessions in which he or she has participated.

To pass the subject the student must have attended at least 80% of the programmed activities, to pass the written evaluation and the record of the activities.  

The student, who does not attend in 80% of the activities or does not present the sheet that accredits the activities, will be consider "Not attended".

A recovery test will be scheduled for students who do not pass the contents of the subject.
