Objectives and Contextualisation

- Present the theories, elements and techniques present in the lexicographical works.
- Know the basic bibliographical works and the dictionaries representative of a model or one age.
- Study computer applications in lexicography, especially in Spanish lexicography.
- Understand the relationships between lexicography and terminology.
- Apply the own methods of the terminology to the treatment of the lexicon.

Competences

    Spanish Language and Literature
  • Analyze the main phenomena of Spanish linguistic variation (historical, geographical, social and pragmatic variation).
  • Describe the structure of the Spanish language, and distinguish the systematic and normative aspects.
  • Know and proper use of traditional and electronic own resources Spanish language and literature and be able to work with them academic work.
  • Students must be capable of applying their knowledge to their work or vocation in a professional way and they should have building arguments and problem resolution skills within their area of study.
  • Students must be capable of communicating information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
  • Students must develop the necessary learning skills to undertake further training with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Typological framing the main phenomena of the Spanish language and relate them to similar phenomena in other Romance languages.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply the frame semantics to contrastive analysis.
  2. Carrying out oral presentations using appropriate academic vocabulary and style.
  3. Exploit the full potential of electronic dictionaries.
  4. Interpret the information provided on linguistic variation dictionaries.
  5. Interpret the process of acquiring Spanish as a Foreign Language in contrast to other languages.
  6. Solving problems autonomously.
  7. Submitting works in accordance with both individual and small group demands and personal styles.
  8. Summarising acquired knowledge about the origin and transformations experienced in its several fields of study.
  9. Use the dictionary for information on the regulatory aspects of the structure of the Spanish language.
  10. Using corpus analysis tools.

Content

1.- Introduction. Lexicography, terminology, terminology.
2.- Structure of the lexicographical work. Macrostructure and microstructure.
3.- Special study of the definition: the bias of gender.
4.- Types of dictionaries.
5.- Current techniques for the construction of dictionaries.
6.- Common language and specialty language
7.- The scientific terminology
8.- Aspects of terminology work
9.- General lines in the history of Spanish lexicography and terminology.

Methodology

The calendar detailed with the content of the different sessions will be presented on the day of presentation of the subject. It will be uploaded to the Virtual Campus, where students will also be able to access the detailed description of the exercises and practices, the various teaching materials, and any necessary information for the proper follow-up of the subject.

The student who performs any irregularity (copy, plagiarism, identity theft...) that can lead to a significant variation of the qualification of an evaluation act, will be qualified with 0 this act of evaluation. In case there are several irregularities, the final grade of the subject will be 0.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

The student will be entitled to the revaluation of the subject if he or she has been evaluated of the set of activities the weight of which equals a minimum of 2/3 of the total grade of the subject.

If the student commits any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade of an assessment act, this assessment act will be graded 0, regardless of the disciplinary process that may be initiated. In the event of several irregularities occurring in the assessment acts of the same subject, the final mark will be 0.

If the tests cannot be taken in person, their format will be adapted (maintaining the weighting) to the possibilities offered by the UAB's virtual tools. Assignments, activities and class participation will be carried out through forums, wikis and/or discussions of exercises through Teams, etc. The lecturer will ensure that the student can access or offer alternative means within their reach.
