Prerequisites

No previous knowledge of Basque is required.

Objectives and Contextualisation

Introduction to Basque based on the exposition of its history. It also aims to address issues such as comparisons with other languages, and the current state of Basque studies. To this end, we will use an extensive questionnaire to advance through the contents of the subject.

Content

In spite of the fact that in the following scheme the subjects appear totally separated, the treatment in the classes will not necessarily be chronological or isolated, but plural and integrating.

Assessment

There will be no final exam!

We will use a continuous evaluation model, which will assess the progressive acquisition of knowledge, daily work and participation:

* Throughout the course there will be two partial tests that will represent 31% of the total overall mark each. Taking these tests later than the established dates means that your score will not be out of 10, but out of 8.5.

* During the course a guided review will have to be given, based on a series of readings specially chosen to reinforce the contents of the classes, which will represent 31% of the overall mark. Submitting the work later than the established date means that it will not score on 100%, but on 85%.

* The rest (0.7 points of the total) will be related, on the one hand, to class attendance, daily work, participation and attitude (0.4 points); and on the other hand, to participation in guiding the review (0.3 points). Not participating in this tutorial means not obtaining all of these 0.7 points of the overall mark. If there is the possibility of organizing conferences or other types of complementary activities to the classes, these activities also score.

* Any unacceptable practice (handing in work other than that requested, identity fraud, very bad writing, copying in exams, etc. implies the absolute suspension of the subject).

In the event of a student committing any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade awarded to an assessment activity, the student will be given a zero for this activity, regardless of any disciplinary process that may take place. In the event of several irregularities in assessment activities of the same subject, the student will be given a zero as the final grade for this subject.

A student who has completed less than 2/3 of the evaluation activities will be considered 'NOT EVALUABLE'.

To participate in the re-assessement,the student must have been previously assessed in a series of activities whose weight equals a minimum of 2/3 of the total grade. Only those students who, having failed, have at least a median final grade of 3.5 are entitled to re-assessement. Some tasks cannot be re-assessed (participation in class, oral presentations, exercises made in class).

In the event that tests or exams cannot be taken onsite, they will be adapted to an online format made available through the UAB’s virtual tools (original weighting will be maintained). Homework, activities and class participation will be carried out through forums, wikis and/or discussion on Teams, etc. Lecturers will ensure that students are able to access these virtual tools, or will offer them feasible alternatives.
