Prerequisites

It is recommended to have taken the courses Projecte Integral I & II and be taking the courses Avaluació d'impacte ambiental & Contaminació del medi ambient.

Objectives and Contextualisation

Projecte Integral III aims to address several case studies of anthropogenic impacts in the Mediterranean context using the academic training received during the semester and prior years. A 3-day field trip will be conducted in the lower course of the Ebre river where several environmental conflicts will be analyzed. Knowledge from different disciplines will be integrated to capture the complexity of the studied system. The participation of experts to give specialized seminars related to the topic of study will be fostered. The students will give an oral presentation in groups about a case study of anthropogenic impacts in Terres de l'Ebre and surroundings.

Learning Outcomes

  1. CM30 (Competence) Evaluate real case studies on environmental problems and conflicts.
  2. CM31 (Competence) Evaluate factors related to the Sustainable Development Goals associated with a specific environmental problem.
  3. CM32 (Competence) Undertake environmental projects based on real case studies, working in small groups.
  4. KM39 (Knowledge) Identify the main aspects of the anthropisation of the environment and its possible impact on the quality of water, air and soil.
  5. SM38 (Skill) Incorporate the scientific, technological and social knowledge associated with a specific available problem.
  6. SM39 (Skill) Apply the main techniques and elements for environmental sampling and to obtain qualitative and quantitative data relevant to environmental sciences.
  7. SM40 (Skill) Critically examine public and scientific information on the environment, in relation to a specific problem.
  8. SM41 (Skill) Use techniques, material and instruments related to the collection of geological and/or biological samples in the field.

Content

  • Historic evolution of the human impact on the natural environment
  • Anthropogenic impacts on several systems in the Mediterranean context
  • Tools for planning, developing and giving an oral presentation
  • Analysis of case studies of anthropogenic impacts in Terres de l'Ebre

This course is divided into theory sessions, practice sessions in the classroom, a field trip, and seminars. The learning will be approached through the analysis of real case studies of anthropogenic impacts and the presentation of a group project (oral presentation) about a specific case of anthropogenic impact in the lower course of the Ebre river.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

Continous Assessment Activities

Title Weighting Hours ECTS Learning Outcomes
Field trip report (group) 10% 0 0 CM30, CM31, KM39, SM38, SM40, SM41
Group project (oral presentation) 60% (45% final presentation, 15% partial presentations) 0 0 CM30, CM31, CM32, KM39, SM38, SM39, SM40
Test 30% 2 0.08 CM30, CM31, KM39, SM38

There different activities will be assessed: an oral presentation of a group project (60%), a test at the end of the semester (30%) and a field trip report in group (10%).

To pass the course, the average final grade must be equal or higher than 5 (out of 10) and the grade of all the assessment activities must be equal or higher than 4 (out of 10). To be evaluated, it is required to have attended the field trip and have presented the project and the report in group. Otherwise, the students will have a final grade of NOT EVALUATED.

Second chance examination: the students who have not achieved the minimum grades can take a second chance test.
