Sufficient knowledge of the basics of health and disease states is desirable, as well as an adequate level of knowledge in interpersonal communication.
It is advisable to have previously acquired sufficient knowledge and competence in:
1. General and specific anatomy of the different organs that constitute otorhinolaryngology and ophthalmology
2. General and specific physiology of the different organs that constitute otorhinolaryngology and ophthalmology
3. General knowledge of histology and pathological anatomy related to otorhinolaryngology and ophthalmology
The student will acquire the commitment to preserve the confidentiality and professional secrecy of the data that he may have access to because of the learning in the healthcare services. Also in maintaining an attitude of professional ethics in all their actions.
The objectives of the subject are:
To give the student a general knowledge of the normal and pathological aspects of ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology to enable the student to:
Identify the symptoms and signs of ophthalmological and otorhinolaryngological diseases, and properly interpret the basic complementary tests of ophthalmology (campimetry, optical coherence tomography, angiography, retinography, ultrasound) and otorhinolaryngology (audiometry, electronystagmography, impedanceometry).
The student must:
Familiarize with the ordered diagnostic sequence of ophthalmological and otorhinolaryngological diseases.
Participate in the differential diagnosis process, making rational use of the examinations specific to ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology.
Deepen the knowledge acquired in theoretical classes on the newest aspects of both specialties or those related to other areas of the degree and which are dependent on being presented with iconographic material or audiovisual tools.
Take an adequate history and a basic examination of ophthalmological and otorhinolaryngological patients, as well as to interpret the basic complementary tests.
Obtain general information about the characteristics of an ophthalmological and otorhinolaryngological patient both in the operating room, as well as in the outpatient office and in emergencies.
Care clinical practices (PCAh) in the ophthalmology service: 24 hours in 8 days
Vitreous-retinal operating room: 4 hours
Corneal and ocular surface operating room: 4 hours
Glaucoma operating room: 4 hours
Oculoplastic surgery: 4 hours
Retina outpatient consultations: 4 hours
Cornea outpatient consultations: 4 hours
Glaucoma outpatient consultations: 4 hours
Oculoplastic outpatient consultations: 4 hours
Care clinical practices (PCAh) in the otorhinolaryngology service: 24 hours in 8 days
Illumination in otorhinolaryngology. Front light Inspection of the external ear. Otoscopy. (2 hours).
Acumetry with tuning forks. audiometry Extraction of cerumen plugs (2 hours)
Anterior rhinoscopy. Nasal patency examination. How to place an anterior tamponade. (2 hours)
Examination of the oral cavity and pharynx. Indirect laryngoscopy. (2 hours)
Tracheotomy and coniotomy. Cervical palpation and low cranial pairs exploration. (2 hours)
Otology clinic (2 hours)
Rhinology clinic (2 hours)
Laryngology and cervical-facial pathology clinic (2 hours)
Otorhinolaryngology urgent visit dispensary (2 hours)
Otorhinolaryngology operating room (2 hours)
Dispensary in one of the Multidisciplinary Committees for therapeutic decisions (otorhinolaryngology tumors, otology, rhinology) (2 hours)

This guide describes the framework, contents, methodology and general rules of the subject, in accordance with the current study plan. The final organization of the subject in terms of the number and size of groups, distribution in the calendar and exam dates, specific evaluation criteria and examination review, will be specified in each of the Hospital Teaching Units (UDH), which will explain this through their web pages and on the first day of class of each subject, through the professors responsible for the subject at the UDH.

Exceptionally and according to the criteria of the responsible teaching staff, the available resources and the health situation of each moment in the different Teaching Units, part of the content corresponding to the theoretical lessons, practicals and seminars may be taught face-to-face or virtually.
Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

The evaluation of clinical-practical knowledge will be specified in the program of each UDH according to its particularities.
This subject does not provide the single assessment system.
Attendance at practices is mandatory.
The maximum number of unexcused absences allowed for each specialty (ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology) in order to evaluate the skills acquired during practical clinical teaching is 2.
Any other absence must be justified. More than 4 absences for each specialty (ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology), regardless of the cause, prevents the student from being assessed.
The acquired clinical skills that can be evaluated will be:
· Ophthalmology: ability to prepare a clinical history, ability to quantify visual acuity and training in the basic handling of the slit lamp.
· Otorhinolaryngology: ability to prepare a clinical history, ability to perform an otoscopy, use the frontal light, perform an anterior rhinoscopy and an examination of the oral cavity and oropharynx. Ability to do an acumetry.
Final qualification
The final grade will be the weighted sum of both attendance checks and practical assessments: ophthalmology (50%) and otorhinolaryngology (50%). It will not be possible to take the average between both evaluations if a minimum score of 4/10 is not obtained in both specialties, even if the average grade is higher than 5. If it is not possible to take the average, the final grade will correspond to the value lowest quantitative among those obtained in the ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology evaluations.
The expression of the same will be a numerical grade with a decimal from 0 to 10. The qualitative qualification will be: suspended, passed, notable, excellent and honors registration.
