Prerequisites

For the course Pràctiques Professionals students must preregister according to a calendar that is made public every year. The calendar can be consulted at the following link:

Failure to preregister results in the impossibility to register for the course Pràctiques Professionals. A student will only be assigned an internship position if they have preregistered within the established deadline. The pre-enrolment of students takes into account the prioritisation of a maximum of five places offered. Places are allocated on the basis of the average marks on the student's transcript.


Objectives and Contextualisation

The aim of the Professional Work Placement is for students to join projects and/or teams in organisations or institutions working in the field of science in society. The tasks proposed may include participation in the processing, management and creation of databases; theoretical and applied research; documentary management; participation or collaboration in the development and presentation of projects; organisation of events and events; collaboration in dissemination and communication activities; or support for the management of research projects, among others.


Competences

  • Develop and communicate orally and in writing the objectives and results of research projects on science, technology and society, using techniques for managing scientific information.
  • Develop and evaluate interdisciplinary projects that combine scientific, technological and humanistic knowledge and encourage citizens' involvement in matters related to science and technology in society.
  • Display a capacity for organisation and planning and, at the same time, for adapting to new problems or situations.
  • Make critical use of digital tools and interpret specific documentary sources.
  • Produce content and proposals that integrate scientific, technological and humanistic knowledge for audiovisual media and educational contexts.
  • Students must develop the necessary learning skills to undertake further training with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Work collaboratively in teams.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply techniques for planning work.
  2. Apply the knowledge acquired on this degree to analysis of specific problems in the relationship between human beings and their environment, in centres or institutions focusing on science in society.
  3. Assess the reliability of sources, select important data and cross-check information.
  4. Develop teamworking skills, blend in and actively collaborate in achieving common goals.
  5. Integrate elements from different areas of knowledge to analyse a situation and suggest actions or solutions.
  6. Interact through new technologies with the members of a work group or a community.
  7. Pass on information to both specialist and non-specialist audiences, and publicly defend the results of your own activity in the company, displaying correct use of the languages of the degree.
  8. Plan and develop projects that integrate the knowledge acquired on the degree into professional or institutional settings.
  9. Promote team spirit and the integration of others' points of view.
  10. Reflect on the skills acquired and determine which ones serve to carry out subsequent work with autonomy.

Content

External academic work placements constitute a training activity which aims to complement the knowledge acquired in class with the skills needed to work professionally, helping students become familiar with the labour market and encouraging their entrepreneurial spirit.

Work placements can be carried out at the university itself, or with other collaborating public and private entities, such as companies and institutions, both locally and internationally

Students will join projects and/or teams in organisations or institutions working in the field of science in society. The tasks proposed may include participation in the processing, management and creation of databases; theoretical and applied research; documentary management; participation or collaboration in the development and presentation of projects; organisation of events and events; collaboration in dissemination and communication activities; or support for the management of research projects, among others.

In everything that is not specified in the Guide, the Work Placement Project will follow the Academic Regulations of the UAB.

Calendar
Calendar adapted to the first year in which the course will be taught. The dates will be specified at the beginning of the course.
May: information meeting with students.
June: Pre-registration of students through SIGM@ and verification by Academic Management of compliance with the requirements.
July: Allocation of places and publication on the website by Academic Management.
September-July: development of the internship and delivery of follow-up reports.

This subject is taken individually under the supervision of a tutor. The subject has a common coordination for the three centres, assigned to a member of the UAB teaching staff; there is a person responsible for each of the other two centres.

The company or institution must have someone to act as a tutor to the student, with the appropriate experience and ability to define a training project. This person will monitor the student's training and once the work placement is completed, will be in charge of writing up their report according to the model included in the university’s Academic information website. Given the case that the UAB tutor and the company's tutor agree for the need of an intermediate report, the report will need to be filled in according to the model included in the site mentioned above.

Students will have to attend a minimum of two tutoring sessions (face-to-face or virtual) during the period of the EP. The tutor will record these sessions in the form of minutes.

The collaborating entity must have established a training project, according to the model attached to the specific agreement approved by the UAB, which specifies, among other things, the tasks in which the student will collaborate, which must provide them with practical knowledge of their future profession, i.e. they must be directly related to the studies they are studying.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

With the objective of assessing the work placement, students will need to write up a final project, according to the model included in the university’s Academic information website. At the same time, if the UAB tutor and the company's tutor agree upon it, the student will need to hand in an intermediate report following the model included in the site mentioned above.

The different activities will be weighed as follows:
60% evaluation by tutor of the student’s work and report(s);
30% student’s report(s);
10% evaluation by coordinator of the student’s.

As part of the training, students must fulfil these two requirements:
1) have attended at least one 1 of the group professional orientation courses organised by the Servei d’Ocupabilitat and show proof of attendance by adjoining the certificate to the Work Placement Report;
2) have taken the questionnaire Professional Competences Test offered by the Servei d’Ocupabilitat de la UAB. The result of the test can be downloaded and attached to the Report.

Possible grades for this class are:
No avaluable: When the student does not complete at least 10% of the required hours of attendance.
Suspès: When the student has completed at least 10% of attendance, but has not completed the remaining hours, and/or his/her activity has been negatively evaluated.
Matrícula d’Honor: Due to the particular type of this course, this grade is not contemplated.
Recuperació. This class cannot be retaken in case the student obtains a "Suspès” grade".
