Content

The Final Degree Work is based on topics related to food science and technology. The work will be carried out, independently and individually, by the student, under the tutor' supervision.

Four types of TFG are contemplated:

a) Bibliographical review work

b) Experimental work

c) Dissemination work

d) Service-learning work

The minimum list that must be included in the TFG is:

a) Bibliographical review work: Summary of the topic about any of the areas of knowledge of the degree.

You must include the following sections:

    Title and author
Objective (s) and exhibition of the subject with the most relevant results
Material and methods (explaining the databases consulted, number of articles ...)
    Conclusions
    Bibliography

b) Experimental work: Proposal of a research project on a topic related to one of the areas of knowledge of the degree.

You must include the following sections:

    Title and author
    Objective(s)
    Introduction
    Material and methods
    Results and Discussion
    Conclusions
    Bibliography

c) Dissemination work: dissemination of a scientific topic of social interest aimed at the general public or students of non-university education levels. You will have to use cultured but comprehensive language.

You must include the following sections:

    Title and author
Objective (s) and exhibition of the subject
    Social, educational or informative interest
    Conclusions
    Bibliography

This typology also includes the edition of contents in Wikipedia: elaboration of an article in Wikipedia on a topic of an area of knowledge of the degree. This type of work must use a formal language that respects the style rules of Wikipedia, including the neutrality of the content and the citation of the sources of information and must include the following sections:

  • Title and authorship
  • Context and justification of the topic in Wikipedia
  • Description of the contribution
  • Bibliography

d)

Service-learning work: participation in a project to solve a real social need related to one of the areas of knowledge of the degree.  This modality includes the realization of a community service with a non-profit organization. It must include the following sections:

  • Title and authorship
  • Social need (description of the entity, detection of the need and objectives of the service)
  • Theoretical context of the topic
  • Description of the service performed
  • Personal reflection
  • Bibliography

The list of topics will be drawn up based on the proposals made by the teachers' degree. Once approved by the center commission (CCTFG), the Faculty will make them public at the end of July through its website, along with the information on the application process.

The TFG will be carried out by the student, independently and individually, under the supervision of a tutor. The TFG is related to any of the  topics in the field of food science and technology. Its content is based on the topic offer, renewed annually. The first application period for te assignation of subjects willtake place during September, and the second on February. The application will be made through an online form through the page sia.uab.cat where each registered student will record their preferences (maximum 5).

The professor responsible for the subject will assign the requested subjects and the corresponding tutors taking into account the order of preferences of each student and using as a criterion, in case of conflicts, the academic record and the number of ECTS passed. Once the process has been completed, the list of allocations will be published on the Faculty website at the end of September and during the month of February (for the 2nd period). It also contemplates the possibility of the proposition' student to an specific teacher. If it is finally accepted, it will be assigned directly to the student who made the proposal.

The Final degree work methodology consists of supervision' sessions, autonomous work and evaluation activities.

The person in charge of the subject will hold an informative session with all the students (via Teams) to explain how the course works. During the first semester, a Moodle course with three modules: information sources, copyrights and Mendeley will be programmed. Once completed the period enabled to do the course a session via Teams of resolution of doubts will be programmed.

The supervision sessions are the meetings with the tutor (tutorials), where the advances in the work will be exposed, so that it can be evaluated and correct. These tutorials, face-to-face and compulsory, will be three. It should be noted that the tutor will assess the degree of student autonomy. At the beginning there must be a preliminary meeting (not evaluable) with the tutor to define the focus of the work, objectives, methodology, sources of information, etc. In this previous meeting the schedule of meetings and the tasks to be carried out for the initial meeting will be set.

In the three types of work, the material that must be presented is

- Memory: it must include all the sections (including the bibliography) in addition to the tables and/or figures. It will not be necessary to print it.
It will have a maximum of 15 pages (including tables, figures and bibliography) and at least 3000 to 4000 words. It will be evaluated by the tutor and the CATFG.

- Portfolio: you must collect in an orderly manner the description of the performance of your work (material consulted, meetings with the tutor, drafts ...). Must serve the tutor to monitor the development and evaluation of the TFG during the tutoring sessions that have been established.

- Poster in English: the dimensions will be specified in advance. The poster, which will not need to be printed, will be displayed on the screen in power-point format. It will be evaluated by the CATFG.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

Continous Assessment Activities

Title Weighting Hours ECTS Learning Outcomes
Overcoming the Moodle Course 0.05% 0 0 7, 11
Poster, oral presentation and lecture 50% 0 0 1, 2, 8, 3, 4, 6
Tutorials 49.95% 0 0 1, 2, 7, 8, 3, 5, 4, 9, 6, 10, 11

The evaluation will be done by the tutor (50% of the grade) and the evaluation commission (the other 50%), who will assess the written report, the portfolio and the poster.

The tutor of the final degree work will evaluate numerically the indicators specified in the rubrics sheet (memory and portfolio), which will be filled out after each meeting.

The day of the work presentation, the poster will be projected on the screen. The student should make a brief presentation of the topic (maximum 5 minutes) and answer the questions asked by the members of the Evaluation Commission. Each member of the Commission will evaluate numerically each of the indicators contained in the sheet of rubrics corresponding to the presentation  (memory, poster, oral presentation and lecture).

There will be the possibility of two calls for presentation. The student, in agreement with the tutor, will choose: February and June.

This subject does not provide for a single assessment system.

Student’s assessment may experience some modifications depending on the restrictions to face-to-face activities enformed by health authorities.
