This is an optional subject of 12 ECTS of the fourth year of the degree. As a requirement to apply, you must have completed the first year and 120 ECTS from the first three years, be enrolled at the time of starting the stay and have paid the accident and civil liability insurance provided in the fee regulations.
This optional course must be preferably taken during the fourth year or in the summer after completing the activities programmed for the third year of the degree.
The objectives of the subject are:
- To promote the student's integration in companies, hospitals or research groups, either in a public or a private entity.
- To learn and to apply Genetics' techniques that are currently used in an industrial ambit or in research projects.
- Prepare a report of the internship experience.
The content of the subject is variable, as it will depend on the entity where the internship is done. However, the content will always be closely related to Genetics. In order to perform an activity related to the field of Genetics, the coordinator of the course must give his/her approval to the internship proposed by the student.

The internship may be done in three different periods (summer, first and second semester). The duration of each period will be made public every academic year on the website of the Faculty of Biosciences. At the time of choosing the period, it is necessary to take into account that the delivery date of the report, as it should be at least 2 weeks before the closing of the course transcript.
The student will find all the general and specific information related to this subject on the website of the Faculty entitled Academic Practices of Degree and in the Academic Practices section of the Virtual Campus. In addition, the Faculty and/or the professor in charge of the subject will organize a general informative session destined mainly to the students of the third and fourth year.
In addition, the student will also find all the information related to this subject, how to formalize the request and all the procedures derived from the adjudication of the internship post in the Faculty's web page titled "Academic Practices in Entities".
Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

The course's assessment will consist of two parts:
1) Student's final report (40% of the final grade). The report will be evaluated by a member of the course's evaluation committee.
2) The Academic Tutor / External Tutor's evaluation of the student (60% of the final grade). The tutor has the power over the student's evaluation and can only be modified in cases where strong evidence of its impartiality is presented.
- Indicators for the evaluation of the final report (weight 40%)
· Following the instructions for the preparation of the final report and the adequacy of the contents in the different sections.
· Research and selection of information. Correct citation of the bibliography.
· Written communication.
· Synthetic capacity.
· Critical capacity.
· The quantity and quality of the work carried out will be assessed globally.
· The correct use of English will be valued positively.
- Regulations for the preparation of the final report
The final report is personal. The extension of the final report will have a maximum of 15 pages, without including the cover, index and references. It will be written in Word or equivalent format with 1.5 line spacing, Verdana font of size 10, and the number of each page will be indicated.
The final report must consist of the following sections:
· Cover: Title, name of the student, the tutor(s) and the research group(s), the time period of the internship and date of delivery to the responsible professor.
· Index
· Theoretical introduction or technology in which the work is framed. It is necessary to include bibliographical references.
· Work aim(s)
· Description of the entity.
· Methodologies used by the student. It is requested to include bibliographical references, if nedded. Work schedule.
· Description of the results.
· Application of regulations, ethical and environmental aspects, if applicable.
· Bibliography.
· ANNEX 1. This annex of the report should only be given to the person in charge of the subject or the member of the teaching staff that evaluates the report and will consist of two sections:
- Evaluation of the entity or research group and suggestions for improvement.
- Personal assessment of the student's contribution, taking into account their professional future.
The final report will be delivered electronically in PDF format to the course's coordinator a maximum of 15 days after the end of the internship and a maximum 15 days before the closing of the course's transcript. Exceptional cases must be authorized by the course coordinator.
The course coordinator must receive the tutor's evaluation and the report written by the student in order to assess the student's work. In the case of not meeting one of these requirements, the final grade will be "Not assessable".
Total or partial plagiarism in the development of the report will result in a 0.

Single evaluation: This course does not include a single evaluation system.
The Bibliography will depend on the specific task that each student will do during their internship according to what they need to prepare the final report.
