Prerequisites

  • You must have passed at least two thirds of the total credits of the study plan (240 ECTS)
    										
    											Have passed all the subjects of the first and second year of the degree. In addition, it is also recommended to have passed the subject of Preventive Medicine and Public Health.

Objectives and Contextualisation

  • The student must prepare the formulation of a research project to achieve the following objectives:
    To formulate a problem or research question identifying the different components of the statement. 
    To carry out a bibliographic review of the scientific evidence that exists on the chosen research problem.
    To write the antecedents or theoretical framework, scientific basis of the research question.
    To formulate the hypothesis and research objectives. To justify the usefulness and applicability of the research results.
    To specify the appropriate methodology to achieve the research objectives.
    To consider potential ethical conflicts.
    To develop a work plan with a schedule that guarantees that the research project is viable over time.
    To define the research team and estimate the budget.

  • Be able to work in an international context.
  • Communicate clearly, orally and in writing, with other professionals and the media.
  • Convey knowledge and techniques to professionals working in other fields.
  • Critically assess and use clinical and biomedical information sources to obtain, organise, interpret and present information on science and health.

Content

  • Individual students must prepare a research project for which they must present a written report*. The recommended length is 4200 words, and you can present up to 4 figures and five tables, very demonstrative and containing a didactic message by themselves. Annexes with supplementary material can be presented.
    The following sections must be included with content adapted to the type of methodology used (quantitative-qualitative): 
    Title and author
    Background
    Initial hypothesis and objectives
    Material and methods
    work plan schedule
    Expected results, applicability
    Diffusion plan
    Research team.
    Budget
    Bibliography.

    Students must present and defend their project in front of a court with audiovisual support.

    * Some end-of-degree work proposals may be linked to Service Learning (ApS) projects. These social commitment projects allow the student to train by participating in a project aimed at solving a real need in a community and thus improving people's living conditions or the quality of the environment (for more information http://pages.uab.cat/aps).

Methodology

The end-of-degree work is done individually and does not involve practical work.
										
											
										
											 
										
											Topic: the student can choose the topic of his/her work freely according to the record. The professors of the different departments of the Faculty will provide an indicative list of areas of interest in research.
										
											
										
											Tutor assignment: each student will have a tutor who will monitor their work.
										
											
										
											Follow-up: attendance at face-to-face (or virtual*) tutorials is mandatory. In the case of Erasmus students, an agreement will be made with the tutor. Tutoring will be done individually. The tutor and the students will choose the tutoring dates from those proposed in the subject's calendar.
										
											
										
											The tutor will continuously evaluate the work done by the student in 3 reports. The student will present a preliminary draft of the deliverables to the tutor sufficiently in advance for him/her to make the appropriate corrections and return it to him/her. On the scheduled dates, the student will make the final assignments that will be evaluated.
										
											
										
											Oral presentation: it is mandatory. Students will make an oral presentation and defense of their work in front of a panel made up of teachers, in person or virtually (*).
										
											
										
											Final documentation to deliver: Each student must deliver to his/her tutor a PDF copy of the computerized files of the written memory of the work and the support for the oral memory (using the TFE computer tool)
										
											
										
											 * Depending on the restrictions on presence imposed by the health authorities.
										
											
										
											 
										
											
										
											 
										
											
										
											Note: 15 minutes will be set aside after the oral presentation, within the schedule established by the center/degree, for students to complete the evaluation surveys of the teachers' performance and evaluation of the subject/module.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

The evaluation of the Final Degree Thesis is based on the tutor's monitoring of the student's work and on the assessment made by a panel made up of 3 professors of the defense and oral presentation.
										
											
										
											The TFG qualification will consist of the following components,
										
											
										
											a. Tutor assessment. (0-10, 50% of the grade). It evaluates the involvement, rigor and commitment of the student to the work in addition to the rubrics of each tutoring session and the final report:
										
											
										
											The initial session (10%),
										
											Intermediate session/progress (25%)
										
											The final session (25%)
										
											Memory evaluation (40%).
										
											b. Evaluation of the court (0-10, 50% of the grade). It evaluates the work done by the student himself, as well as his communication skills and the ability to defend the work presented.(*)
										
											 
										
											
										
											Conditions for calculating the final grade
										
											
										
											
										
											1. That the score of the initial evaluation session is equal to or higher than 5. In the case of a lower score, the student will not be able to continue the work and his qualification will be NON-ASSESSABLE.
										
											
										
											2. Considering that the first criterion is met, the other condition is that the score of the evaluation of the final session and of the evaluation of the memory is equal to or higher than 5. In the case of a score lower than l ' student will not be able to make the oral presentation and his qualification will be SUSPENDED.
										
											
										
											3. If the oral presentation and defense is in English, the increase of up to 0.5 points in the final grade will be considered
										
											
										
											* The proposed assessment may undergo some modification depending on the restrictions on attendance imposed by the health authorities.
