Objectives and Contextualisation

The module aims to introduce students to the practice of research in prehistoric archaeology, by carrying out an original research work referring to any of the contents and aspects dealt with in this master's degree or in interrelated topics.
The content of the Master's Thesis may be a state of the art on a specific historical and/or archaeological problem, although research work that enhances the collection, systematization and analysis of unpublished archaeological data will be prioritized. This is intended to promote the application of innovative methodologies on the archaeological record of prehistoric chronology, which allow expanding the knowledge of the societies framed in that stage.

  • Analyse and extract significant scientific information from archaeological materials and from the results of specialist scientific studies.
  • Critically analyse a scientific problem area on the basis of specific evidence and documents.
  • Design research projects on prehistoric archaeological sites and materials
  • Develop original contributions within the framework of theoretical research and practical applications.
  • Knowledge and understanding that provide a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and / or applying ideas, often in a research context.
  • Manage research projects in prehistoric archaeology.
  • Recognise and judge the social consequences of your own work, taking diversity in gender, identity and culture into account.
  • Recognise and use suitable theoretical and methodological concepts for the design, planning and execution of projects on prehistoric archaeological sites and materials.

Learning Outcomes

  7. Formulate and solve problems and interpret the causes of the social processes being studied in the field of prehistoric archaeology.
  8. Implement protocols for conducting field work and sample collection.
  9. Include gender perspectives, universal accessibility and multiculturalism when proposing and reflecting on work.
  10. Incorporate ethical considerations into the analysis of the cultural needs of different groups.

Methodology

The methodology will depend on the orientation of each research project.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.
