Objectives and Contextualisation

This module has as a general objective the integration of the different knowledge in forensic psychology and legal psychology in the general training of the master (modules 1, 2, 3 and 4). In this way, it is intended to consolidate a set of knowledge and professional skills aimed at the effective resolution of assumptions and practical cases approached from different perspectives.

Competences

  • Analyse and organise the psychological information available in order to give advice in judicial processes.
  • Apply and compare forensic psychological assessment techniques.
  • Identify the areas in which forensic expert valuation and psychological advisory support are applied and analyse their functioning in criminal, civil, family and employment law.
  • Identify the sources of information needed and use them in judicial evaluations and advisory support on matters of psychology.
  • Organise and plan activities in order to achieve professional goals.
  • Students can communicate their conclusions and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously.
  • That students are able to integrate knowledge and handle complexity and formulate judgments based on information that was incomplete or limited, include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments.
  • That the students can apply their knowledge and their ability to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study.
  • Use quality criteria to critically analyse and evaluate the work done.
  • Work cooperatively, in complex or uncertain environments and with limited resources, in a multidisciplinary context, recognising and adjusting to the roles played by the different professionals.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Analyse in an integrated manner the areas of application of forensic expertise and psychological counselling and their functioning within the judicial framework of criminal, civil, family and employment law.

Content

In this module, the contents addressed throughout the entire master's program will be worked on in an integrated manner through assumptions and practical cases close to the various casuistry typical of professional life in the forensic and legal field.

  •      Documentary search associated with the practical assumptions and cases addressed.
  •      Development of forensic psychological evaluation: establishment of objects of expertise, design and application of forensic psychological evaluation methodology, ethical and deontological aspects.
  •      Writing of forensic psychological report: structure and formal aspects of the report, integration of results obtained.
  •      Ratification and defense of the forensic psychological report based on the simulation of an oral hearing.
  •      Practical work on assumptions in legal psychology.

Methodology

The module consists of eight different sessions in which the professional role in forensic psychology and legal psychology will be worked on from different angles based on assumptions and practical cases.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

The proposed approach aims to gather different scores on the participation in the subject that allows to proceed to the continuous and final evaluation of the students. A continuous evaluation will be carried out, measured through three evaluation evidences.

The final mark of the module is between 0 and 10. It will be considered that a student has passed the subject if in the weighted average of the different evidences he obtains a score equal or superior to 5, being the minimum mark for each evidence d 'a 4 for weighting purposes.

This module includes the following evidence of learning:

    Evidence 1: Oral defense (30%)
    Evidence 2: Reports (40%)
    Evidence 3: Practical task (30%)

ESSENTIAL EVALUATION ISSUES

    In the event that the presence of a copying student is detected during an exam, the recovery will be automatically suspended without the possibility of access. In case of plagiarism in the drafting of papers, the option of direct suspension will be considered.
    Students who do NOT present all the evidence in the Module will NOT pass the subject
    Once the subject has been passed (grade ≥ 5), NO systems can be established to improve the final grade.
