Prerequisites

To have passed all the theoretical subjects related to methodology.

 

Objectives and Contextualisation

Students will develop and write an empirical research project that will be presented in an oral examination in order to pass the subject (12 ECTS)  

Competences

  • Analyze critically the most current theories, models and methods of psychological research in the field of clinical and health psychology.
  • Analyze data and interpret results on research in clinical and health psychology.
  • Apply the outstanding ethical principles and act accordingly to the deontological code for the profession in the scientific research practic.
  • Communicate and justify conclusions clearly and unambiguously to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
  • Design, plan and to implement projects psychological research project in the area of clinical and health psychology.
  • Discuss the results the results on clinical and health psychology research, and contrast them with existing scientific literature and draw conclusions and practical applications.
  • Integrate knowledge and use it to make judgements in complex situations, with incomplete information, while keeping in mind social and ethical responsibilities.
  • Pose relevant and new research questions in clinical and health psychology depending on the bibliography consulted.
  • Search for information in scientific literature using appropriate channels and integrate such information to propose and contextualize a research topic.
  • Select adequate instruments of psychological assessment for the objectives of a research project in clinical and health psychology in different fields: medical or other.
  • Solve problems in new or little-known situations within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to the field of study.
  • Use scientific terminology to argue the results of research in the context of scientific production, to understand and interact effectively with other professionals.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Analyse the data collected for the study and write up the results.
  2. Apply the outstanding ethical principles and act accordingly to the deontological code for the profession in the scientific research practic.
  3. Communicate and justify conclusions clearly and unambiguously to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
  4. Discuss the results of the research in the context of existing scientific production and analyse the implications.
  5. Identify and apply appropriate assessment instrument to resolve the research question proposed.
  6. Identify and apply the most appropriate design to answer the proposed research question.
  7. Integrate knowledge and use it to make judgements in complex situations, with incomplete information, while keeping in mind social and ethical responsibilities.
  8. Raise the objectives, research question and formulate hypotheses about a research in clinical psychology and/or health psychology.
  9. Search for information in scientific literature using appropriate channels and integrate such information to propose and contextualize a research topic.
  10. Select instruments for psychological assessment taking into account their psychometric properties and the objective of the assessment.
  11. Solve problems in new or little-known situations within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to the field of study.
  12. Use scientific terminology to argue the results of research in the context of scientific production, to understand and interact effectively with other professionals.
  13. Write up the theoretical framework of the research question.

Content

Student choose a topic from those offered within the lecturers’ lines of research.

Methodology

This empirical project is individually supervised by a lecturer on the master’s degree. Before presenting the project, a minimum of 6 work sessions (student-supervisor) must have been carried out and validated. Additionally, the supervisor must inform the Master’s Degree Committee on the student’s suitability for presenting the dissertation.

 

The Master Committee will then decide on whether the presentation of the dissertation may proceed, taking into consideration the supervisor’s report and its own evaluations.

 

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

The dissertation will be assessed by an examinations panel of 3 PhD-holding members. The supervisor cannot be part of this panel. The oral presentation is presencial and public (depending on  the medical situation); each student will have a maximum time allotment of 10 minutes to present their project.

A grade of 5/10 is required to pass.

Students who do not pass should re-enroll in this subject in the following academic year.
