Objectius

Aquest curs és una introducció al camp de l’ecologia industrial (IE) com un esforç multidisciplinari per avaluar els sistemes antròpics, minimitzant el seu efecte negatiu al nostre planeta. Als estudiants se’ls ensenya els mètodes, les eines i les estratègies de l’IE, destinats a recrear el nostre sistema industrial de manera que pugui ser sostenible i en harmonia amb la resta de l’ecosistema natural. Per assolir aquest objectiu general, coneixerem:

Comprendre els conceptes d’IE, el seu marc com a àrea de recerca multidisciplinària basada en la teoria de sistemes; recursos: béns i serveis ambientals, externalitats.
Comprendre l’anàlisi del flux de material (MFA) i poder aplicar aquesta eina a diferents sistemes, com ara un producte, un procés o una regió.
Comprendre els conceptes de metabolisme urbà, petjada de carboni, incloses les diferències d’abast, resultats i implicacions polítiques.
Comprendre tant l'enfocament basat en processos, MFA-LCA (o anàlisi del flux de material juntament amb l'avaluació del cicle de vida) com EIO-LCA (o entrada-sortida econòmica juntament amb l'avaluació del cicle de vida); apliqueu els fonaments d’aquests enfocaments per utilitzar-los en diverses anàlisis (per exemple, GEH, contaminació, aigua, terra, tòxics, ús de materials, etc.)
Conegui el concepte d’ACV, les seves aplicacions i el marc global per al seu ús.
Comprendre els passos principals de l’ACV (és a dir, definició d’objectius i àmbits, anàlisi d’inventari, avaluació d’impacte i interpretació) i aplicar-los a diferents casos de la vida real, com ara productes o serveis.
Apreneu a avaluar i interpretar els resultats, suposicions i incerteses en estudis de casos des d’un punt de vista crític.
Apreneu a utilitzar el programari Open LCA i les seves funcionalitats bàsiques i a poder calcular els impactes ambientals d’un sistema mitjançant ell.

Competències

  • Analitzar, sintetitzar, organitzar i planificar projectes relacionats amb la millora ambiental de productes, processos i serveis.
  • Aplicar la metodologia de recerca, les tècniques i els recursos específics per a investigar i produir resultats innovadors en l'àmbit dels estudis ambientals.
  • Que els estudiants sàpiguen aplicar els coneixements adquirits i la seva capacitat de resolució de problemes en entorns nous o poc coneguts dins de contextos més amplis (o multidisciplinaris) relacionats amb la seva àrea d'estudi.
  • Tenir coneixements que aportin la base o l'oportunitat de ser originals en el desenvolupament o l'aplicació d'idees, sovint en un context de recerca.
  • Treballar en un context internacional i multidisciplinari.

Resultats d'aprenentatge

  1. Analitzar els resultats de recerca per obtenir nous productes o processos i valorar-ne la viabilitat industrial i comercial per a transferir-los a la societat.
  2. Aplicar els coneixements de les diferents eines d'ecologia industrial a sistemes independentment de l'escala.
  3. Aplicar la metodologia de recerca, les tècniques i els recursos específics per a investigar i produir resultats innovadors en l'àmbit dels estudis ambientals.
  4. Conèixer els principals elements de l'ecologia industrial: teoria de sistemes, termodinàmica, anàlisi de flux de materials i consum de recursos.
  5. Conèixer els sistemes urbans i els seus indicadors per avaluar-los.
  6. Conèixer les eines d'ecoinnovació aplicables a entorns urbans.
  7. Interpretar i desenvolupar anàlisis de cicle de vida per a productes i processos.
  8. Ser capaç d'aplicar els conceptes de la classe, avaluar i prendre decisions basades en els resultats.
  9. Treballar en un context internacional i multidisciplinari.

Continguts

Aquest curs és una introducció a el camp de l'Ecologia Industrial (IE) com un esforç multidisciplinari per avaluar sistemes antropogènics, minimitzant el seu efecte negatiu al nostre planeta. Als estudiants se'ls ensenyen els mètodes, eines i estratègies dins de l'IE, amb l'objectiu de recrear el nostre sistema industrial de tal manera que pugui ser sostenible i en harmonia amb la resta de l'ecosistema natural. Per aconseguir aquest objectiu general, el mòdul conté els següents objectius:

Comprendre els conceptes de l'IE, el seu marc com una àrea de recerca multidisciplinària basada en la teoria de sistemes; Recursos: béns i serveis ambientals, externalitats.
Comprengui l'Anàlisi de flux de materials (MFA) i sigui capaç d'aplicar aquesta eina a diferents sistemes, com un producte, procés o regió.
Comprengui l'anàlisi de l'cicle de vida (ACV) i com implementar la metodologia: definició d'objectius i abast, anàlisi d'inventari, avaluació d'impacte i interpretació, en diferents casos de la vida real, com a productes o serveis. Aprendre a avaluar i interpretar els resultats, suposicions i incerteses en els estudis de cas.
Comprengui els conceptes de metabolisme urbà, petjada de carboni, incloses les diferències en l'abast, els resultats i les implicacions polítiques.
Comprengui l'enfocament basat en processos, MFA-LCA (o Anàlisi de flux de material juntament amb l'Avaluació de l'cicle de vida) i EIO-LCA (o Entrada-sortida econòmica juntament amb l'Avaluació de l'cicle de vida); apliqui els fonaments d'aquests enfocaments que s'utilitzaran per diverses anàlisis (per exemple, GEH, contaminació, aigua, terra, substàncies tòxiques, ús de materials, etc.)
Aprengui a utilitzar el softwareSimaPro i les seves funcionalitats bàsiques i sigui capaç decalcular impactes ambientals d'un sistema a través d'ell.
Apliqui el programari SimaPro per comparar un producte de sostenibilitat i un producte convencional des d'una perspectiva de cicle de vida i representar els seus resultats en un pòster.
Aprengui a utilitzar el programari Gabi i les seves funcionalitats bàsiques i sigui capaç de calcular els impactes ambientals d'un sistema a través d'ell.

 

Metodologia

 The key concepts of this class will be transferred through theory classes (33 hours), hands-on exercises in lab classes (21 hours), and a hefty load of autonomous and group work (120 hours).

Nota: es reservaran 15 minuts d'una classe, dins del calendari establert pel centre/titulació, per a la complementació per part de l'alumnat de les enquestes d'avaluació de l'actuació del professorat i d'avaluació de l'assignatura/mòdul.

Avaluació

The daily quiz will be given at the beginning of class, and will serve to count assistance and timely arrival to the class. They will only last 10 minutes. There will also be peer evaluation that will be taken into account for the presentations.
