Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites. We recommend starting the Master’s Dissertation (MD) during the second semester in order to have enough time to develop it properly.

Objectives and Contextualisation

The MD allows the student to address a real problem from the field ofHealth Psychology, either by joining a research team, or by identifying, with the help of the tutor(s), a need, problem or lack of knowledge. The MD requires the student to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the Master’s Degree to solve real problems.

Competences

  • Acquire, develop and put into practice a concept of integral health, including all its biopsychosocial components, in line with WHO guidelines.
  • Apply the principles of bioethics and the deliberation method to professional practice, in line with Law 44/2003, of 21 November, on organisation of the healthcare professions.
  • Communicate and justify conclusions clearly and unambiguously to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
  • Communicate with other professionals and show mastery of skills needed in working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Continue the learning process, to a large extent autonomously
  • Critically analyse and use clinical information sources.
  • Formulate working hypotheses in research and critically assess information for problem-solving, using the scientific method.
  • Integrate knowledge and use it to make judgements in complex situations, with incomplete information, while keeping in mind social and ethical responsibilities.
  • Know healthcare personnel's duties and responsibilities regarding confidentiality and protection of patients' personal information.
  • Solve problems in new or little-known situations within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to the field of study.
  • Use acquired knowledge as a basis for originality in the application of ideas, often in a research context.

Content

The student can choose one of the following options depending on his/her interests and the interests or proposals allowed by the tutor supervising their work:

A. Systematic Review following PRISMA Guidelines

B.Empirical Research

C. Development of a new tool for Health Psychology practice: therapy programmes, health guidelines, e-health project, assessment procedures....

Methodology

The student develops the competences acquired during the Master’s Degree in order to achieve the option he/she has chosen (Systematic Review, Empirical Research or Development of a New Tool) following the guidelines provided by the tutor. The student works autonomously and is assisted by his/her tutor. The hours spent on each task (autonomous work, tutorials, assessment and coordination) are described in the following table
