Objectives and Contextualisation

  • To know the fundamental concepts that characterize the fields of study: families and children in a social difficulty situation; and aging and quality of life.
  • To analyse the current legal frameworks that govern the aforementioned areas
  • To identify the policies and intervention programs that are carried out in these areas
  • To know and to reflect on gender inequalities involved in the areas dealt with
  • To know the tools of diagnosis, implementation and evaluation in intervention projects in these fields

Competences

  • Defend and justify arguments with clarity and precision, so appropriate to the context, valuing the contributions of others.
  • Identify, relate and apply concepts, theories and perspectives in the theoretical and practical approach to psychological reality.

Content

Contemporary families; Continuity and transformation
Families and childhood in social difficulty: Understanding  models of situations of social difficulty. Irrigation and protection factors. Vulnerability and resilience.
Families and childhood in social difficulty Systemic-relational theory for understanding the functioning of the family and other systems.
Families and childhood in social difficulty: The identity of the victim in the context of social difficulty.
Families and children in social difficulties Psychosocial intervention in the context of social difficulties.
Aging and quality of life: Cultural construction of aging. Action frameworks and guidelines for the intervention
Aging and quality of life: Psychosocial intervention in gerontology: Practical applications.

Methodology

The following different methodological strategies will be combined:

  • Presentation of contents by the teaching staff, followed by classroom discussion
  • Supervised activities: follow-up of the search and analysis process of a scientific article related to each of the two areas of knowledge dealt with
  • Autonomous activities: search and analysis of the theoretical and intervention framework of selected articles, and preparation of a report on the application of the module to the TFM process.

The virtual platform Moodle is the communication channel of the subject outside the classroom. It is the responsibility of the student to access it regularly in order to get informed about the content that is published there.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

The evaluation is carried out in a differentiated way for each area. The competencies will be evaluated by means of continuous evaluation, based on the completion of the following obligatory assignments:

  • 2 group reports on a scientific article (one for each area covered).
  • 1 Individual report on the application of the module to the TFM process

All the evidences will be delivered both in person and online.

The above delivery dates are approximate. The final calendar will be presented at the beginning of the course.

Evaluation criteria:

  • Pass: students who have demonstrated having achieved the competencies evaluated in the different activities. The four evidences must be passed with a minimum mark of 5.
  • Evaluable: students who have given learning evidences with a weight equal to or higher than 4 points (2 or more assignments of the course)
  • Evaluable, Fail: students who have not achieved the minimum mark of 5 in any of the evaluation activities. The maximum overall grade that can be reached in this case is 4.9 points.
  • Re-evaluation: re-evaluation will be done continuously. If the minimum mark of 5 is not reached, a new delivery must be made within two weeks after the first delivery, or at the time specified during the course. Re‑evaluation may not be used to improve on a passing mark already obtained.

Any misconduct on the part of a student (copying, plagiarism, etc.) .may result in a final grade of 0 (fail) being recorded for the module.
