Objectives and Contextualisation

The function of the subject is to provide the student with a basic linguistic competence in Catalan that enables him to communicate in this language, incorporate Catalan as a language of study at the faculty and prepare for the translation.
After completing the course, the student will be able to:

 - Understand written and oral texts of diverse typology with a certain complexity on general topics (MCRE-FTI B2.2).

- Produce written and oral texts about general topics. (MCRE-FTI B1.1).

Learning Outcomes

  1. Applying lexical, morphosyntactic, textual, rhetorical and linguistic variation related knowledge: Applying graphical, lexical, morphosyntactic, textual, rhetorical and linguistic variation related knowledge.

Content

· Basic knowledge of lexicon, morphosyntax, phonetics and spelling.

· Introduction to the structures necessary to carry out communicative functions such as obtaining and giving information, describing, narrating, explain, argumentative, etc.

· Comprehension of oral and written texts of diverse typology with a certain complexity on general themes of familiar fields (narrative, descriptive, expositive, argumentative).

· Production of oral and written texts in familiar fields 

Methodology

The classes are taught in Catalan from the beginning to make the student habituate to this language. The focus of the classes is communicative; Work is done for work, but learning is combined with grammar exercises.  

From class activities, in which the four skills (oral and written comprehension and oral and written expression) are worked out, at home the student will have to perform regular homework exercises (grammar exercises), review the vocabulary and structures learned in the lesson, write essays regularly and prepare an oral presentation.  

The training activities are divided into activities directed by the teacher, activities supervised by the teacher and autonomous activities of the student, as detailed in the box above.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

The information on the evaluation, the type of assessment activity and its weight on the subject is for information purposes. The teaching staff responsible for the subject will specify it when beginning teaching.

Review

When submitting the final grade prior to the minutes, the teacher will notify in writing a date and time of revision. The review of the various assessment activities will be agreed between the teaching staff and the students.

Recovery

Students who have attended activities may receive recovery, which is equivalent to 66.6% (two thirds) or more of the final grade and have earned a weighted average rating of 3.5 or more .

When submitting the final grade prior to the minutes of the subject, the teacher will notify in writing the recovery procedure. Teachers can propose a recovery activity for each activity suspended or not presented or can group several activities in one of them. Under no circumstances may an assessment activity worth 100% of the final mark be retaken or compensated for.

Consideration of "non-evaluable"

A "non-evaluable" will be assigned when the evaluation evidence provided by the student is equivalent to a maximum of one-fourth of the total grade of the subject.

Irregularities in the evaluation activities

In case of irregularity (plagiarism, copying, impersonation, etc.) in an evaluation activity, the rating of this evaluation activity will be 0. In the event of irregularities occurring in two or more activity activities, Evaluation, the final grade of the subject will be 0. The evaluation activities where irregularities have occurred (such as plagiarism, copying, or impersonation) are excluded from recovery.
